Hi - we are a Bermuda based company currently using an old version [2011] of QB for Mac. We want to upgrade and migrate to QB Online - but saw somewhere that "Note: You can only move QuickBooks Desktop for Mac files to the US version of QuickBooks Online."
This would be practically useless - is there any kind of work-around which would let us migrate to an International Online account?
Thanks in advance...!
Great to see you in the Community, @BDAmac. I'd be happy to share some details on how to migrate your data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac to QuickBooks Online (QBO) International account.
Migrating from QBDT Mac to QBO international version is unavailable. No worries, you can export the lists and transactions manually using an Excel CSV file. Or use a third-party app in the process.
You can start by exporting important reports from your QBDT Mac company data. These are the following:
Customize these reports to get the specific data you preferred. Then, export these reports as an Excel or CSV file.
Note: Exclude the 1st to 4th row of the exported report before importing it to QBO by opening the file.
Once done, you can import the lists to QBO. To know more about the process, you can check out Step 2 of this article: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.
Please don't hesitate to reach back out to me in this thread if you need further assistance or if you have other questions. I'm here to back you up. Take care and have a great day ahead!
Prepare your new blank QBO Global version for Bermuda account

then you may have 2 ways to migrate data:
1. You have to convert your data to QB Desktop (Windows) as the first step. Utilize the trial version for QB Desktop to upgrade your data and utilize a migration tool. i.e TPExporter for Desktop and TPImporter for Online

2. Purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

Hi there - thanks for the response!
Someone here heard that only a few years of records will come over to Online - whereas we have records on desktop going back near 20 years. Is that true? Is there any way to bring old records in as archived data?
Thanks!
Hey there, BDAmac.
Allow me to share additional information regarding moving your QuickBooks for Mac data to the online version.
To ensure you can move all your records from 20 years, you'll want to make sure your targets don't reach the limit. The file must be less than 350,000 targets.
Here's how to check the target limit:
Here's an article for more details: Condense your QuickBooks Desktop file for import to QuickBooks Online. Even if this article is for QuickBooks US versions, the same principles can be applied to your International account.
You can take a look at this write-up to know more about the converting process: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online
Let me know how the result of this troubleshooting in the comment below. I need to make sure this is resolved and you're able to convert your file. Have a good one.

If you choose one of the 2 options I mentioned earlier, you will be able to migrate all years of data. But I would recommend to upgrade your company file to the latest version as archive. You can utilize the trial version of QB Desktop to open it later. Then you only need to migrate some portion of data to QB Online. e.g 1/1/2020 to date
