Has any company based in Ireland with multi currency accounts switched from desktop to online?

We are a company based in ROI.  We are in the process of transferring our books from QB desktop to QB online. We have multi currency accounts and therefore the move my books facility does not support the migration of multi currency.  Has anyone done this successfully?

You should consider buying a 3rd party service to convert your data with multicurrency transactions as I mentioned earlier.

You've got me here to share some insights about exporting your file from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online with multi-currencies, ME-.

We can follow the instructions provided by Fiat Lux - ASIA. Also, transactions with three different currencies cannot be converted to QuickBooks Online (QBO). After the conversion, you must manually enter them into the system. To select your desired currency, enable the Multi-currency feature in QBO. Please keep in mind that this option is only available in the Essentials, Plus, and Advanced versions. Please see this link for more information on this procedure: About Multicurrency.

However, here is a complete list of the data that can be migrated from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If you're ready to export your file, follow the instructions in these links, as well as the QBO getting started guide, which explains how to use the program:

Feel free to go back to this post if you need help with conversion or transferring data in QBO. You can leave a comment if you have follow-up questions. Have a wonderful day ahead.

Hi RCV

Thank you for your reply.  Sorry I just what to clarify your reply.  Are you saying to me that even if I used the third party that the data will be need to be manually corrected as we are using 3 different currencies?

The third party option is pretty expensive to migrate data.

Thanking you.

Kind regards.

You're most welcome, @ME-. Allow me to chime in on this conversation and answer your further queries about migrating from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The information provided by my colleague above is about manually converting your data without using any tools as QuickBooks doesn't support migrating multicurrency transactions.

On the other hand, if you persist to use a third-party app, you can bypass the manual entry process since it'll help you convert your data seamlessly. As I am not allowed to recommend any, I can provide you with this link to find the best third-party app: Apps help QuickBooks run better. You just have to enter some keywords to maximize the results and check on the customer's review of the app for better recommendations.

Additionally, here's an article that'll tell you what to do to make sure your data is being transferred properly from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: What to do after you move from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.

Should you need further assistance in migrating your data, feel free to notify us by leaving a comment below. It's always our pleasure to make sure you'll transfer your data successfully and provide assistance whenever needed. Keep safe and have a good one.

Has any company based in Ireland with multi currency accounts switched from desktop to online?

Hi Quennie C

Thank you for your reply and the information provided.  I am having real difficulty here migrating my data from QB desktop to QB online.  We used the move my books facility which migrated the data but with 106 differences. I am so frustrated with the whole process as when I move my books are unable to assist due to the multi-currency issue and QB are telling me to contact move my books to fix the problem.  I have spend 4 full working days trying to solve this issue and now on day 5 and still no solution.  QB has suggested to export and import the data, however I am between the desktop and online support and nobody sure of what needs to be done.  Can you help me here?  I need someone to take responsibility to guide us through the whole process..

Hi there, ME- I understand this process isn't easy for you. But first, let me to clarify some things about importing data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Keep in mind that QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online have different features and functionality. The amount of information that can be imported to QuickBooks Online is determined by the data converted by the third-party application/tool.

With that, there are certain limitations when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. One of them is you're multi-currency transactions. This means you'll need to manually enter them in the system after the conversion process to avoid any discrepancies.

I've added this link as reference about moving data to QuickBooks Online: Quick-Look FAQ: Move your Data into QuickBooks Online

If you need more information about importing data to QuickBooks Online, you can check out this link: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Return to this thread and let me know if you still have other follow-up questions. I'll be here to help.

Hi QuickBooks Team

Thank you for your reply.   Just to clarify when you say "you'll need to manually enter them in the system after the conversion process to avoid any discrepancies" - do you mean I will have to manually enter every GBP or USD transaction for the past 2 years (data migrated) to avoid any discrepancies?

Thanking you.

That is correct, ME.

Due to certain limitations when migrating, only certain types of data are converted when moving to the online version. Because of this, it's recommended to manually record or recreate the transactions in your account.

Let me share the details on how to manually recreate them:

  1. Click the + New button and select the type of transaction.
  2. Enter all the details of the transaction.
  3. Click Save and close.

Please see these articles for guidance and additional details:
