Required invoice cgst and sgst

Welcome to QuickBooks Community, @aksharma4563.

I'm here to ensure you can have a GST-ready invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This way, you're in compliance with the rules set by the Government of India.

All registered business who supplies a product or service should raise an invoice under Goods and Services Tax (GST). The sale of goods or services within the state will attract SGST (State GST) and CGST (Central GST). That's the general tax rule that QBO follows.

The QBO program is GST ready. It makes sure that every CGST and SGST invoice you issue contains 14 different types of information. Here are at least 5 required details that an invoice must contain:

  • Name, address, and GSTIN of supplier
  • Consecutive invoice serial number with only alphabets and/or numerals, that are unique for a financial year.
  • Name, address, and GSTIN / Unique ID Number of the recipient, if registered under GST.
  • Name and address of the address for delivery of products or services, if applicable with state code.
  • HSN/SAC code for products and services respectively.

For the complete list of the required information in a CGST and SGST invoice, kindly refer to this article: What is a GST-ready invoice?.

After knowing the invoice content, it's time to customise the said form to make it GST compliant. Before doing so, please make sure you've already added your GSTIN in QuickBooks. You can start customising by enabling customer GSTIN in the printed invoice. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Custom form styles.
  3. Choose the GST invoice, then select Edit under the Action column.
  4. Go to the Content tab.
  5. Click the Header section of the invoice template.
  6. In the Display section, select the Customer GSTIN checkbox.
  7. Click Done.

Next is to enable the HSN/SAC column in your printed invoices. For the complete guide, you can check out this article's Step 2 section: Customise invoice for GST

QuickBooks has all the necessary reports to help you in effectively monitor your GST taxes. For the complete list of available reports, you can refer to this article: GST reports in QuickBooks. It includes details about GSTR1- 4. B2B InvoicesGSTR1 - 7. B2C Small Invoices, and GSTR2 - 4. B2B and Unregistered Invoices to name a few.
