Check Printing Alignment Issues

My payroll checks have always been a little off on the alignment, but when I print my bill payments, it is usually lined up fine. I just bought new preprinted checks, so its probably that the checks are slightly different versus anything different with the QB program. However, now when I print both payroll checks and bill payments, the alignment is far enough off, that I can't use them. I tried to use the print setup at the bottom of the screen, but it did not change anything. I printed the sample on plain paper, used my check stock to determine how many squares down and over it needed to be to fall within the preprinted fields on my checks, I dragged the grid to that location, the vertical and horizontal numbers changed, I printed the preview and nothing had moved. I even changed the vertical and horizontal numbers drastically to see if it just wasn't enough of a change to notice and yet, still nothing moved on the preview. So, I clicked "finished setup" to see if that was necessary to make the changes save and then I printed a new bill payment, but the changes had not saved. I am using Quickbooks Online Plus through my internet browser, Safari (because my app is too glitchy and their "shoe comes untied" too often). Anyone else having these alignment issues and have a solution? Thanks in advance!

Check Printing Alignment Issues

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, @britni.

Since the issue persists after performing all the steps you've mentioned above, let's try other troubleshooting steps that can help us fix the alignment issue when printing checks and bill payments.

To start, if you have third-party PDF plug-ins installed (including Adobe), remove them from Safari. This allows the browser's own internal PDF viewer to take over as the default handler. Here's how:

  1. Close Safari, then open a new Finder window.
  2. Select the Go menu and pick Go To Folder.
  3. Type /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ in the fiel.
  4. If there are plugins, move them to the trash or somewhere else on your system. Enter your password to authorise the removal.

Once done, re-open the browser and sign in to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Then, print them again to double-check. For more information about the process, consider checking out this article: Troubleshoot printing problems in Safari. If the issue persists, try using other supported browsers

Please know that I'm only a few clicks away if you have any other concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great rest of the day!

Check Printing Alignment Issues

Hi,

I am having similar issues with printing checks.  The only payroll check that I print is for our President the rest of us have DD.   So the main issue is when I try to print payments, the date is below the date line, the $4,687.25 (example) is much much too far to the left of the $ on the checks.  The information for the 2 bottom stubs is too far up.  I have gone through the steps over and over again and once I get it to the point where it is usable (not correct) in a month or so it just randomly screws up again.  I have spoken with the "Experts at Intuit" repeatedly about this problem and of course they are no help, the Expert today told me that I must be using the wrong type of checks.  We have been using the same QB compatible checks for as long as we have been using QB.  We switched to Online in June of 2018 and that is when the problem started.  I verified that we could use the same checks with the Expert at Intuit when we were migrated over, so I find it odd that now I'm being told that the checks are the problem.  HELP

Check Printing Alignment Issues

I appreciate the steps you've performed to get your paychecks be aligned, SJ3351.

We can perform other troubleshooting steps aside from what my colleague provided. Sometimes stored cache files can cause unexpected behavior within QuickBooks. Let's go back to your main browser and clear its cache. Then, print a sample paycheck again.

Then, we can do a test sequence for PDF printing issues. First, we'll have to ensure that your can print a local PDF document. Then, let's make sure we can view and print a PDF document from your browser as well as from QuickBooks Online.

If the issue continues, I'd suggest reaching out to our Phone Support Team again so we can further investigate what's causing the issue.

Keep me posted on how this works. Thanks!

Check Printing Alignment Issues

Hi

Thanks for replying,  I'm sorry I wasn't clear, the issue is payment checks not payroll.  We only issue one of those to our President every once in a while.  I process a lot of Vendor Payment checks, so I'd like to concentrate on the issue with those.

Thanks

Check Printing Alignment Issues

Hi,

So I cleared out the browser and yes I can print .pdf from both QBO and my browser.  It is a waste of time calling Intuit, as regardless of what the issue is with their software, they NEVER know.

Thank you for replying

When printing from either online account the checks printing on our preprinted checks are a little off. We had fixed the issue before but it changes on it's own?

We are having the same issue with one of our clients in Desktop 2018.  The settings are not saving when she goes in to align the checks with the printer.  What steps should we take to try and resolve this? I see everyone else seemed to be discussing QBO but our issue is Desktop.  thanks,

Hi Nicole

I've never had that issue when I was using Desktop, I would post this as a new question so that the community can address your issue specifically.

Check Printing Alignment Issues

Hello there, @ NicoleN and @ SJ3351.

Thanks for following this thread. Let’s run the QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool to fix your printer settings.

This is a built-in tool that can resolve most printing problems in QuickBooks. I’ll be your guide on how to run the utility.

  1. Make sure to close QuickBooks.
  2. Then, download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Next, tap the Save file button to download the link and hit the Open file link to run it.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  5. When the installation is done, double-click on the icon on your Windows to open the tool hub.
  6. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, tap the Program Problems menu on the left panel.
  7. Click the QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool menu to run it.

Once done, try printing a check. If you still get the same result, perform Solutions 2- 4 in the following article. Please know it’s from the US, but it applies to your regions: Troubleshoot PDF and Print problems.

As always, feel free to visit our Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future. It's from the US region, but some of the tasks also apply in your QuickBooks version.

Let me know how this turns out or if you need further assistance with these steps by leaving me a comment. I'll jump right back in to help. Have a good one.
