Hello, a simple invoice line item report is showing several, repeated line items even though the original invoices only have 1 line item. See attached examples Invoice 18046 contains a single item, line #2 with Product/Service=M-Part
but a report, filtered on this same invoice # shows 3 rows for the same item.
I've tried limiting the fields and the filter criteria but all reports show duplicated/triplicate line items. If I GROUP by invoice #, then the nested group (in this case only a single invoice) only shows a single line item. While this is accurate, I don't want group the report because that causes extra work when data in downloaded and managed (outside fo QBO)
How can I get this simple report of line items to accurately reflect the line items on the Invoice without grouping?
Thanks
We can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this, @dbhertel.
There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, thus causing some unusual responses. Let's log in to your account using a private browser. This mode will not save any history, making it a great place to identify browser issues.
Access your QBO account in a private/incognito browser. You may use these shortcut keys that I've listed below:
Once signed in, try to pull up the reports again. If it works, kindly proceed with clearing your cache. This helps improve the performance of the application. Also, you can use other supported browsers. It could be that the one you're currently working on has a temporary problem with QuickBooks.
Additionally, I've added these resources to guide you more on how to manage reports in QuickBooks Online:

Hello and thank you for a quick response. Unfortunately, I had tried most of this previously (forgot to mention that). I just retried, using incognito in Chrome (version 103) and also in Firefox (version 102) and the problem remains. its clearly not a browser/cache problem.
I'm open to any more troubleshooting tips and appreciate the help.

Hi there, @dbhertel.
I appreciate you following the browser troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague above. Let me share additional methods for removing duplicate line items from your report.
This error can occur in a variety of ways. Duplicates can occur when downloaded transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO) are unproperly matched to transactions already created in the software. Or transactions are entered several times, and the unusual behavior of the browser.
Since the troubleshooting steps above don't resolve the issue, I suggest selecting the duplicate transaction on the report. It will take you to the transaction page, where you can click More and select the Delete button.
In addition, financial reports provide snapshots of various aspects of your business. Check out this article which files are available for your QuickBooks Online version: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.
Let me know if this helps. I want to make sure that you're able to get this resolved as soon as possible. Have a wonderful day!
Hello -- unfortunately I can not find the report referred to in your prior instructions "...selecting the duplicate transaction on the report". I've searched for 'duplicate transaction' in search field: FInd Report by Name
Report>Standard
I'm using Quickbooks Advanced. Where can I find the duplicate transaction report?
I also tried searching for that name in the main search window but nothing found:
Welcome back, @dbhertel.
Allow me to make some clarification about the report and help you from there.
QuickBooks doesn't have a Duplicate Transactions report. What my colleague ChristineJoieR means is that you can run a report, such as an Invoice list report, and open each invoice to find the duplicate line items. If you've found the duplicate line items, you can now delete them by clicking the Trash bin icon beside the Tax column.
Come back to this post and let me know how it goes, @dbhertel. I want to make sure this is taken care of.
You may also want to view all your sales transactions. You can go to the Sales menu and select All Sales. This will give you a great view of the status of sales transactions, open invoices, and paid invoices.
Have a good one!
Hello and thanks for the reply and clarification. Please see the original attachments on this thread. The invoices do NOT have duplicate line items! Nor do any of past invoices contain duplicate line items. Further, if the report is GROUPED by Invoice number the duplicate line items do not show up - proving that the dups do not really exist (i.e. likely a bug in QB). The problem occurs only when the report is run NON-GROUPED that the invoice line items are duplicated.
To further prove this issue is not caused by bad data -- I created a new invoice today #18068, containing exactly 1 line item
Then run the report, NOT grouped:
Finally, if the same report is GROUPED, this test invoice does not show up. I'm not sure why, but I suspect because I haven't actually collected payment on the invoice. This is a different issue in that no where in the creation process of the report did I specify the invoice must be paid before it'll show up on this report.
Thanks for all the details that you shared, dbhertel.
Can you tell us how you built or created the report? What are the filters used? We also wanted to test on our end to make sure we give you the right information.
We look forward to your reply. Thanks.
Hello, per your request here is how the report is built:
1. Filter Product/Service Value equals: (any of) M-Part, Parts, S-Part, Truck Stock Part
Of course these 4 active values are previously defined in QB Products & Services
That is the only filter.
I need to remove the duplicate invoice line items so I must group by Invoice #
Under customize, the columns chosen are:
Invoice > Invoice date
invoice > Invoice number
Invoice > Customer name
Invoice > distributor order # (a custom field)
Invoice > technician (a custom field)
Invoice Line items > Description
Invoice Line items > Rate
Invoice Line items > Product/Service
