Hi Fiona, I have had so many problems with QBO foreign currencies especially in the purchase ledger...with no cumulatve balances in foreign amounts, having to export to excel to get my balances....its been an absolute nightmare...and for this and issues such as yours, I for one would not enrol anymore clients to QBO. There keep on giving standard replies and not changing anything..these foreign currencies issues are so basic and yet QBO are giving the users a hard time.
If only that were the only issue I am having.....Stock is a complete nightmare as well. Anything with a foreign currency leaves 1ps even if everything is sold. You end up with a list of zero qtys but a value of 0.01 !!!! Changing to FIFO was a ridiculous mistake by Intuit. There are also glitches when is doesn't put the COS into the P&L. You have to delete the line on the invoice, re-enter it and miraculously it appears. Anyone who doesn't reconcile the COGS account to sales is going to end up with balance sheet being overvalued and P&L overstated. My advise, if you have stock, DONT use QBO, find an alternative otherwise your accounts will not be correct, or it will take hours to find the differences. Luckily for me, I am old school, grew up having to do accounts manually without the use of computers. Anyone without that background does not have a hope in hell of looking for differences.
i know QBO is a complete nightmare!
you are having deep issues with stock, others are having issues with fx balance sheet. Can see this, can see that....What the F*** are QBO doing!
i am having fundamental issues with the purchase ledger, and even the presentation is rubbish. In an individual purchase/supplier account at top right shows OPEN Balance and OVERDUE balance....guess what...it does not show the straight actual balance!...So if you have not tied everything invoices to payments....you will be seeing the wrong balances...The way to see the correct balance is to go back to your supplier list!....Mama mia! have to do so many more searches to see the correct info....a disgraceful software...
Should read: Can't see this, can't see that....What the F*** are QBO doing!
..and to follow up...on ...Supplier in foreign currency: "guess what...it does not show the straight actual balance!.."
there is a balance at the bottom of the supplier page...but its in the home currency! causing more confusion! It should be in the same currency as the transactions. And it shouldnt be at the bottom....It should be at the top where new transaction are being placed...QBO a complete nightmare!
Its simple Fix the issues, Don't give us bullsh*t, or Resign from this company and work for a company that produes a good robust product!
Focus on functionality first before focusing on report layout and beautification bu*lsh*t (I'm referring to 'New Enhanced Experience' - My foot). Honestly, at least add a temporary report for now (even a crappy one) to see the balances I can truly collect from my customers. In my country, the exchange rate fluctuates like a roller coaster and this has created redundancy in my organization to maintain multiple sheets to see the actual balances.
there is no report that i've found. QBO have not fixed the issue. And I don't know whether they ever will!
I maintain loads of foreign currency balances in the foreign currency in EXCEL! I have no option but to duplicate my work in order to see the correct balances and running balances in the foreign currency. QBO is a disgrace.
Suggestion: keep an eye open on other products on the market...and as son as you see something better go for it and dump QBO. QBO are not responsive. They have their own agenda of pasting "lip-stick" on their product and "crab-trap" as many customers as they can! The old adage applies "buyer beaware".
Trouble is those of us who were on Desktop (which was brilliant) had no choice but to transfer to Online which is substandard in comparison. If I had 1p for every time I say "you could do this on desktop but cant' on online" I would be a millionaire!! I keep posting negative feedback but never any response. If they asked users, they would ditch the fancy report layouts and focus on content. I don't want an excel report that I keep having to unwrap text and take off merged cells. They don't understand why we want to put data into excel!!!!
I have been complaining - more appropriately pointing out their flaws- for a while but it seems QBO have wax in their ears! I am having to use Excel like a partner software to QBO. That is without Excel, the QBO software would be completely useless.
You are correct Desktop was brilliant. We were not offered a choice. Or at least the choice was accept QBO or leave. Those who accepted QBO are (slowly...slowly...) finding they were guided into a trap. I expect there are stil people buying into QBO and they will not know that they are trapped until a year or two has elapsed! Its a shame / and a disgrace.
I appreciate your patience, JC. The ability to view both foreign and home currency balances for supplier accounts is certainly important. While QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn’t currently provide this report, I can suggest some effective workarounds to meet your requirements.
First and foremost, I encourage you to communicate your thoughts directly with our product development team. They genuinely value customer input and are eager to hear your suggestions.
To proceed, here's how:
In the meantime, you can use the Balance Sheet Detail report, which allows customization to show account balances in different currencies. However, it still does not provide a straightforward way to view both foreign and home currency balances side by side.
Another option is to run the Transaction Detail by Account report, which can then be exported to Excel for manual adjustments to display foreign balances alongside home currency balances.
You could also explore third-party applications that specialize in multi-currency reporting in our QuickBooks App Store. You can find available options by navigating to the CATEGORIES section to select an app that best suits your needs.
