Let me share some clarifications about the error message when connecting to ATO.
You usually encounter this error when you're trying to make electronic lodgement for ABNs with brances. Right now, it's not yet supported by QuickBooks Online.
Currently, adding a branch number when lodging BAS is unavailable in our system. I suggest reaching out to your tax agency and verify the available options about sending the document.
I appreciate your input on this feature. We always improve the features in QuickBooks Online, and this preference might be added in the future.

If you have insights for product improvement ideas and any product concerns to help us improve your experience while using QuickBooks Online, please feel free to go to the Settings icon in your file and click Feedback. All suggestions are welcome and reviewed for potential product enhancements.

Is there any way to do this yet? It seems ludicrous that we can't enter a branch number for e-bas in 2021.

Currently, branches are unable to be supported for e-lodgement and if your business is set up with a branch number with the ATO you will not be able to lodge through QuickBooks Online. I'd recommend lodging your BAS directly to the ATO website.
You can still prepare the BAS and mark it as lodged in QuickBooks Online, you will just need to lodge your BAS directly with the ATO.

Yes I know but this isn't a solution when e-bas is advertised as a product feature..... is it?

We understand that this feature would be a great addition to our product. Having this feature in Intuit QuickBooks Online would give it more flexibility. I have lodged your feedback to our customer feedback system in regards to this option. However, we're unable to provide specific timeframe as to when the option to e-lodge with branches on ABN will be available in our current set of features and offering in QuickBooks Online.
We'd recommend you also send your feedback through your QuickBooks Online account by clicking on the Gear icon and select Feedback. In the meantime, you can manually lodge your BAS to the ATO for ABN's with branches.

It's now 2024 and is there an option to add a branch yet? I don't see the option. Very frustrating!!

I understand how important for you and your business to be able to lodge BAS with a branch number. We've already added this to our product feedback report to let our Product Developers know of the feature you are looking for. In the meantime, we recommend lodging the BAS directly to the ATO.
I recommend sending your product feedback through the Settings option in QBO and click on Feedback. Any input you provide will be used to help improve your experience as a QBO user is appreciated.
