I'd like to provide the reason why we enable third-party cookies, Sedge.

KeyPay is a cloud-based app. It integrates with QuickBooks Online to help you with workforce management, payroll, and accounting. Having said that, we'll have to enable third party cookies so you'll not encounter any issues when logging in.

If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to keep in touch.

Is anyone else unhappy with QBO now requiring thrid party cookies to be enabled to use Payroll?

Hi Kristine

I've been using QBO Payroll for a few years now and this requirement is new. I used Payroll in Google Chrome a week ago without issue. I'm not happy with having to globally accept third-party cookies in my browser just so I can use QBO. Usually I use the Windows App but I can't access Payroll in that (see my other post).

I'm assuming you didn't mean the last line literally  :-)

Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,

I reached out to Kristine about the last line. She didn't mean it that way. She missed the word "hesitate" on that line. We're sorry about that.

On the other hand, I'm letting our engineers know that you're concerned about the cookie-requirement. That way, they can consider creating options in future updates.

We're just right here if you need more help.

Its been 2 years, any update from QBO on why you require all third party cookies to be enabled?

Why not whitelist?

Can you provide further information on the type of cookies you are enabling? e.g. session only, permanent, first party, third party?

Can you explain why its only payroll that this privacy and security risk is required when it is arguably the data most important to keep private i.e. personal data?

Are there any plans to modernise this component of QBO or should we be looking for a different app to do our payroll?

I gave up and use different browsers for different things

- Firefox for most

- Chrome for some

- Edge for QBO only - the only one with 3rd party cookies enabled.

I used to like using the QBO application, but Intuit cancelled that.

It isn't the Intuit or Keypay cookie policies that concern me.

It is the requirement to globally enable 3rd party cookies... for every site I visit.

While I might trust Intuit and Keypay with access to my computer, there are some really scary dudes out there who will take every opportunity to do really nasty things. Disabling 3rd party cookies is one line of defense.

Hi sedge,

Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. I'll be sure to add your feedback about third party cookies when accessing the Employees tab in QuickBooks Online Australia and let the relevant team know about your thoughts.

I'd recommend also checking this link to learn more about cookie policy Intuit Cookie Policy and Cookie Policy (KeyPay).

Would someone at QBO please explain why it is necessary for all of the www and the following third-party to have access to the Payroll module. Yes I can understand to your website but not within the app itself:

Hubspot

Zendesk

Google

YouTube

Linkedin

Meta

Microsoft

I can see where you are going with that risk management approach but it still opens up the payroll data to all the nasties on the world wide web.

What I don't understand is that the ledger part of QBO does not require the enabling of all cookies, only the payroll. So less security on the personal information about our employees. Most countries privacy legislation require greater not lesser security of personal information.

Hi Mich99,

I get your point with regards to the enable cookies when using the payroll function. Since the payroll (KeyPay) feature in QuickBooks Online comes from a third party provider. In order for the payroll platform to work and establish connection in QuickBooks Online the cookies needs to be enabled on your browser.

From a user perspective, it's a lot quicker to have cookies enabled and payroll (KeyPay) runs a lot quicker. It's also not possible to run the payroll side without cookies from my experience.
