Can someone actually update us if there will be eventually a feature for a credit limit? It will be so helpful.
thanks,
Hi, MCGV.
At this time, there isn’t a specific time frame as to when this feature is available. Our development team is constantly working to improve the product and appreciates the help of users in bringing things like this to their attention.
I can pass along all the suggestions you have to the appropriate channels so you're able to reach a point of resolution as quickly as possible.
For now, I'd encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Blog, so you'll be updated with our latest news and updates including product improvements. Just go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

As the temporary solution, you may find this feature in a few inventory mangement app that supports QBO.
I have been an avid user of QB desktop version dating back from quickstart to the present of the 2019 Pro version for 2 companies. One of my companies needed to try the QBO version. I am very disappointed in the QBO version versus the desktop version. One would think that the developers would be able create the online version a lot like the desktop version except more accessible. I have been using QBO since 9/2019 and I have been finding more and more cons than pros. I can't create the reports I need to look the way I need them to look with QBO, same with invoices, credit memos, etc. There is a lot more information that can be added to customer, vendor, and employee profiles that are necessary in the desktop version versus the online version. Being able to have a credit limit on a customer profile and having a pop up when invoicing saying that the customer has hit that limit has been amazing with the desktop version.
I'm about ready to check into multiple user desktop versions and cancel the online version. I really have been trying to have an open mind about it. QBO is very limited in EVERY aspect of use.
I appreciate your loyalty to QuickBooks, @MarthaM76.
And I personally don’t want you to feel this way. Your views and opinions matter to us as this helps our engineering team to improve our software that meets our customer needs.
Allow me to share some insights into the differences between QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software. QBO is designed specifically for small businesses. While the QBDT software is designed for big business.
That being said, some features from the QBDT aren’t available in QBO and vice versa. To learn more about the differences between our two programs, check out this link that shows the comparison between QBO and QBDT software.
In addition to this, I’d recommend checking our QuickBooks Blog page regularly. This way, you’ll stay up to date on the latest news and happenings in QBO. For QBDT, you check our Product Updates page.
Please feel free to leave a reply if there’s anything else I can help you with your QuickBooks account. I’m more than happy to help you anytime. Have a great day!
You may need an inventory management app with the credit limit feature to integrate with your QBO.
If you switch back to QB Desktop, you may deploy a private cloud or put your license on a QB cloud hosting. You can access your company file(s) by internet connection.
I have recently done my Sage Business Cloud Certification and I must say its worlds apart from QBO. As someone that is looking to start my accountancy practise and therefore shopping around for the best Accounting software QBO will be last on my list. Its a shame really, you really need to keep up with your clients demands. EG. Allowing for customer / Supplier credit limits to be set up. This is such a simple request but is of great importance to our clients.
Since you have now forced these bigger businesses to migrate to QuickBooks Online which you say yourself is intended for smaller businesses, why hasn't this functionality been added at this stage? When is it due to be introduced?
We always strive to provide the best product experience possible, BookkeepingBecky.
At this time, there isn’t a specific time frame as to when you can set up credit limits for customers available. Our development team is constantly working to improve the product. We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products.
You can also give our engineers direct feedback. They may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me demonstrate:
Furthermore, you can visit his page to stay up to date on the latest software improvements and enhancements with QBO: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online. You'll want to check for a third-party application that can help you with allowing for customer/supplier credit limits to be set up.
Check out this link for a list of QuickBooks-compatible apps: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/. We can also do it in QBO by following the steps below:
Any questions about integrating the app into your Online account should be directed to the app's third-party provider. To assist you in managing your account and growing your business with QBO, I recommend visiting one of our support websites: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about account management, banking, and expenses, to name a few.
Feel free to drop by if you have questions about managing your entries. Do you need to run some reports for the next current period? Or would you like to take care of taxes in QuickBooks? Let me know and I'll lend a hand again.
If you are selling goods, use a 3rd party inventory management app with the credit limit feature.
