Can i create more than one company on the Online version of QB as i am able to do with the Desktop version?
Hello Belinde,
Thanks for your query! :)
Currently, QuickBooks Online can only handle one company profile per subscription. If you have multiple companies, you'll have to sign up for once QuickBooks Online account per company. But the good thing is, you can use the same user ID for all your companies so that the accounts are listed in one place when you log in.
Please check on the link below to know how to create multiple accounts using one User ID:
Hope this helps! :)
Is there a discount for second, third, etc. subscriptions to accommodate the fact that switching to online Quickbooks I no longer have the ability to have multiple companies?
Thanks for coming back, ellen7855
We offer discounts to our customers who are about to use our product for the first time. You can also be eligible for a discount if you've purchased a new QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription for the first year. After that, you'll be paying the actual subscription rate.
Just go to this link if you'll want to purchase a new one in the future: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/za/. You can also reach out to our Sales Support Team regarding your discount inquiry. Just click the Start chat button on your screen.
To learn more about the subscription rate, you check out this article: Understand your QuickBooks Online subscription rate.
Fill me in if you need a hand with running your business in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'll be here to help. Take care always.
You will get a discounted price for up to 6 months for opening every new account.

You have to take an extra effort to migrate your data between QBO accounts by using this 3rd party migration tool should you need to keep your cost low.

It seems silly that QuickBooks is pushing updates constantly (my 2017 Desktop Pro version is now unsupported), so now I'm looking to "upgrade" to either the new desktop version or move to the QB Online, which is clearly what QB wants me to do. The problem is that I manage books for 3 different companies, but I can't justify paying for 3 separate subscriptions. I would like to switch to QB Online, but I won't be able to do so until you will allow for multiple companies to be run under one subscription.
So are you forcing me to buy the current version of Desktop again so I can run my three companies? Please help me. thanks.
Hello there, deebo,
You can still use your QuickBooks 2017. However, if you're using payroll or other online services it will be unavailable. Furthermore, updates and new releases will no longer be available.
As for using QuickBooks Online, you can only have one company per subscription since it's a cloud-based accounting.

Let me know if you have other questions.
If you are using QB 2017 US or CA version in South Africa, I didn't find any reason to keep update your QB version. Do you have any specific issue (e.g using bank feeds) ?
You may have already settled this, but I wanted to pass this along for your knowledge.

Good luck.
Was this the only solution? I switched from desktop to online and now have a cluster mess with all transactions in a single database.
I also bought just one subscription, like I had for the desktop version.. I have seven bank accounts for 4 business's. Two account are escrow (non-profit). Cant beleive that I need four, or maybe 7 subscriptions.
One QBO account is for one company file. You may manage branches/divisions by utilizing the Class/Location feature available in QBO Plus. Otherwise you should open a new account or switch back to QBD.
