We cannot work in more than one window - why has this function been removed???

We didn't remove the feature of working QuickBooks Online (QBO) in multiple windows, @ruth10.

I'm here to provide the steps to help resolve your concern depending on the platform you're using. This way, your business will get back on track.

If you're using the browser tabs, its cache may be full of frequently accessed page resources. This may cause unusual behavior in the program, such as being unable to work in more than one window.

We can start by logging into your QBO account using an incognito window since it doesn't store data in the cache. Thus, it's a great way to isolate browser-related issues. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Once signed in, open multiple windows in QBO again (see the screenshot below). If this works, let's clear your regular browser's cache, so it'll function efficiently. Otherwise, you can use another supported browser to help fix this.

If you're using the QBO desktop app, here are the possible factors why you're unable to work in more than one window.

  • The application's version or OS is outdated.
  • The stored app data is full.

Let's first update the application to make sure we have the latest features. For Windows, refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Open the Store window.
  3. Select your profile icon.
  4. Select Downloads and updates
  5. Find the QBO desktop app.
  6. Click Get updates

For Mac, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
  2. Select Updates in the App Store toolbar.
  3. Locate the QBO desktop app.
  4. Click Update

Second, let's reset the app data to clear its cache. It helps restore the application to its default settings, so you'll able to work in multiple windows. I'll guide you how.

  1. Go to Help from the top menu.
  2. Select Reset App Data.
  3. Allow a moment for the process to complete, and then close the app.
  4. Be sure to right-click the app and choose Run as Administrator when re-opening it.

To learn more about using multiple windows, see the last section through this article: QBO App for Windows and Mac

Lastly, I recommend visiting this resource hub to effectively manage your income, expenses, inventory, banking, VAT, and QBO account.

I'm here anytime you have other concerns. Enjoy the rest of your day, @ruth10.
