Good day
I am new to Quickbooks Online.
Please assist me with the following.
I had mistakes in my Products and Service List.
I exported the list and I made the necessary changes.
I now want to import this back into quickbooks online.
If I import it directly, will it create duplicate items and if so, how do I avoid it?
Thanks
Carel Smith
Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your business partner, @Carel12345. I’ll walk you through the process of importing your data in QuickBooks Online.
Before importing your product and services list, ensure you’re using the correct format. You can download the sample file by selecting Import Data from the Settings. From there, enter your product and services items.
Let’s also review if there’s no invalid characters in your company name or items. Check out this article to learn how to handle special characters and avoid errors: Acceptable characters in QuickBooks Online
After that, we can then import your products and services list:
QuickBooks is dependent on the entries that are transmitted from your file. To avoid it, let’s scan the list for a product or service with the same name. If you have duplicate ones, select Overwrite all values.
If you’d like to modify a product or service, we can do so by merging or removing the unused ones. We can also hide them in your reports. For the step-by-step process, feel free to read this guide: Remove or merge a product or service

Feel free to post more of your QuickBooks-related concerns if you have any. I'll be right up to help. Wishing you and your business continued success.
Thank you for the response.
I will follow the steps and see what happens.
Blessings.
Hi There
Just another question before I tackle this.
The file that I originally exported also contains the purchase information as well as expense account of each item. This does not reflect in the sample file I downloaded. The sample file only contains the item details on the income account side.
Will the system accept the I have with both income and expense account details even it does not give this in the sample file?
Carel Smith
Thanks for getting back to us, @Carel1.
I'm here to answer your additional question about importing a file.
Yes, the system will accept it but the details will not appear on the sample template. Once you import the file it will be automatically assign to the income and expense account.

Hi Abigail
Not sure how to tag someone...
I clicked on the quote "button" hopefully it does the trick.
Thanks for the feedback and willingness to assist...
My current Quickbooks is populated with a products and services list.
I exported this list and made changes to the income and expense accounts the items were assigned to.
Now I want to import this list again.
Will it create duplicate items in my Quickbooks or will it just overwrite the current list.
I really do not want to create duplicates...
Blessings

Hi there, Carel12345.
Let me add some information about importing products and services into QuickBooks Online.
When importing products and services services data, you'll have the option to select Overwrite all values for each product or service with the same name. But, make sure to everything is correct this can't be undone.
You can check out this article for more information in importing products and services into QuickBooks Online.
I'm also adding this link that you can use as a reference: Acceptable characters in QuickBooks Online.

THIS DOES NOT WORK IT STILL DUPLICATES THE ITEMS
Let me elaborate some information when importing products and services to QuickBooks Online (QBO), 9130347947114846.
As mentioned by my colleague @Archie_ B, if you've imported your products and services incorrectly, ensure to overwrite all values for each product or service that you import with the identical name and import the same file again. Then select Overwrite all values at the bottom of the page so items won't show as duplicates.
I've tried re-importing the same product on my end and didn't tick the Overwrite all values box. QuickBooks won't import the same product if it is showing as identical.. Check out the screenshot below:
I've also re-imported the products and at the same time, tick the overwrite box, it successfully imported the products, however, it's not showing duplicate items.
