How to Inactive the Group Tax

Hi there, yasiraliw. It's my pleasure to have you here in the Community. I'm here to help you remove the group tax created in your database.

You'll be able to eliminate the group tax from the Taxes page by making it inactive. Make sure to open QuickBooks as an admin while doing the process to avoid restrictions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu, then click on Edit rates.
  2. Find the group tax from the list.
  3. Disable the On button under the Gear icon.
  4. Hit Yes to confirm.

After that, revisit your tax list to see the result.

Here are some resources you can open to get more tips while handling your taxes in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

If you need to record, adjust, or delete sales tax payments in the future, use this link as your guide: Manage sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online.

I appreciate you for reaching out today. If you have follow-up questions, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to provide additional assistance. Have a great weekend!

Thank you for getting back, yasiraliw.

Based on your screenshot, I can see that you don't have the option to inactivate the tax from the Action column. Let me share additional troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

Unexpected results or behavior while working with QuickBooks like this can be affected by the browser's cache. For now, I suggest opening your account through a private window to narrow down the result.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

If it works, clear the cache of your main browser to remove browser history. You can also use another supported browser as an alternative.

However, if you're getting the same result, I recommend reaching out to our Support Team for further assistance. This way, a live representative can look into your account securely and help you with inactivating your group tax.

  1. Open this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-global/contact.
  2. Enter your concern, then Continue.
  3. Choose a way to connect with support.

Let me know if you have other taxes concerns. I'll be here to help. Have a great day!

How to Inactive the Group Tax

Have done a fresh sign-up to the international version of QB Online this week.  Created some tax rates and then grouped in a tax group.  Now there is no way to edit or deactivate the newly created group tax.  Using the latest Microsoft Edge browser.  Please advise.

Thanks for joining the conversation, @Wilbur79. It's good to know that you've done a fresh sign-up to isolate the issue.

I replicated your concern to double-check if the option to toggle on or off is there, and I was able to do so.

Since the same thing happens to you, I recommend using a different browser or a private window to access your account if you haven't done it yet. This way, we'll be able to check if it's a browser and cache-related issue. You can utilize the keyboard shortcuts shared by my peer Angelyn_T above to access a private window or an incognito.

After that, please try to inactivate the group tax again. If you now have the button to do so, then go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to fix the unexpected behavior in the product. Otherwise, use other supported web engines to learn what computer and browser are needed for the best experience when using QuickBooks.

If the issue still persists, then it's best to contact our QuickBooks Online support team. They have the necessary tools to pull up your account securely and be able to provide you with the necessary support and guidance to address the issue.

Moreover, here's an article you can use in the future to learn how to record, adjust and delete sales tax payments in the tax centre: Manage sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online.

Please keep us posted on how the phone call goes. We want to ensure that this is taken care of. Keep safe.

How to Inactive the Group Tax

Hi Nicole, tried on different computer and using Firefox 144, instead of Edge (both are latest and recommend on QB website link you sent).  Same result: unable to edit or delete Group Tax.

There are now 3 major issues with QB online:

A. unable to edit / delete group taxes

B. on the invoice the tax displayed (when using 3 grouped taxes) the Tax company and not the individual taxes names being applied.

C. if you have 3 taxes in a group, the 1 & 2 use NET and the 3rd item using NET + TAX AMOUNT, the total calculation is only using the previous 2nd item and not both of them (1st & 2nd).

How to Inactive the Group Tax

Hello, Wilbur79. I’ll share some information about modifying or deleting group tax in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Once a group tax is set up, it can't be edited or deactivated. Currently, we can only inactivate individual tax rates. Let me guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select Edit rates from the Edit GST drop-down arrow on the Tax Center page.
  3. Choose the tax rate you want to inactivate.
  4. In the Action column, toggle the radio button to turn it off.

Furthermore, I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. This will enable them to securely access your account and investigate why the individual tax names are not appearing on the invoice and not calculating the NET and Tax amount of the third item.

Here's how:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon in the upper right-hand corner of the dashboard.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern and press Enter.
  4. Click I still need a human.
  5. Hit Contact Us to connect with our live support.
  6. Choose a way to connect.

I have done those now twice with online support.  Are support still working on it as advised yesterday (little confused by your email)?  As the following are still outstanding:

A. unable to edit / delete group taxes

B. When using 3 grouped taxes; on the invoice the tax names are displayed by the Tax company and not the individual taxes names being applied, just looks silly.  Showing "GRA" 3 times, instead of what they are "NHIL & GetFund", "Covid19 Levy", "VAT"

C. When using 3 grouped taxes; the 1st & 2nd use NET and the 3rd item using NET + TAX AMOUNT: the NET + TAX calculation is only using the 2nd and not 1st, when it should be the sum of both of them (1st & 2nd).

Would be really nice to resolve this

Hello there, Tommy.

We appreciate you joining the thread and that we recognize how important it is to have the option to disable or deactivate a grouped tax inside QuickBooks Online (QBO). Since the feature isn't available inside the program, we'd recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. This way, they can evaluate your suggestion and consider it for future program updates. We'll gladly write down the steps to get you going:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Select Feedback and then enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Once ready, click Next to submit feedback.

Furthermore, here are some articles we'd recommend you checking out to help you manage sales taxes, and ensure your data stays accurate inside the program:

Tommy, if there's anything else that you'd like us to help you with or a goal you'd like to accomplish inside QuickBooks. Feel free to visit us here in the Community space. We've got you covered, and we'll assist you again. Stay safe, and have a good one!
