Yes another QuickBooks KB that is inaccurate. There is no "Add Subtotal" option for me.
Hi there, Travis94ZX.
Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and share details about adding a discount on invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
The Add Subtotal option is located below the Product/Service column. Also, if you turned on the Discount feature in the Account and Settings, you should have a Discount percent/value section below the invoice's Subtotal.
Below is the sample screenshot from my test account.
If you don't see these option, let's sign in to your QBO using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is already full of frequently accessed page resources (cache and cookies), causing some unusual responses.
Here's how:
If everything looks good, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache to refresh the system. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

I just started using Quickbooks. I can't believe that the basic feature of adding a line item discount is not available or that it requires a workaround to apply a discount to a specific line item. This is ridiculous. I did get five Quickbook points for reading an ariticle. I would prefer Quickbooks spend it programming energy on implimenting a basic feature that has been in discussion for at least three years.
To be clear, you should be able to enter a product and apply a specific discount to that product without much effort. This is a basic feature of any invoice system.
Feedback was given, it is already 6 years since nobody cares.
Looks like there are two and a half subcontractors from freelance dot com working as devs for QB - that is why this option will never be available.
In their priority only integration of paid plugins so QB can get more money, that is all.
Embarrassment!
