Inventory type not present when importing on Quickbooks Online

Hello, this is on a new Quickbooks Plus account when trying to import my inventory:

After enabling inventory tracking:

04.fw.jpg

I can add an "Inventory" type item on Products and Services/New page:

05.fw.jpg

03.fw.jpg

But when using "Import products and services" function  I don't get "Inventory" as a Type option:

02.fw.jpg

Because of this, "Inventory" type is marked as an invalid entry and the import fails:

I've already searched for an answer to my problem everywhere without success.

Thanks for your help!

It's a delight to see your post today, Tadeo.

Nice screenshots! This helped me understand your concern better.

Let's review the imported inventory file and make sure you're able to use Inventory as your item Type.

Once done, you can re-import the file to see the changes. I'd be happy to guide you through the whole steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Import Data.
  2. Click Products and Services.
  3. Hit Browse to select the file. Then, click Open.
  4. Click Next.
  5. From the Map Data window, review the fields, then click Next.
  6. Form the Import window, you'll see the list of products ready to be imported. Review the Type and click Import.

I've added a screenshot for your visual guide. This is how your import process should look like:

To become more familiar with importing files in QBO, check out this guide: Import products and services from Excel.

Let me know if you have additional questions. Stay safe and have a great day ahead!

Hi LackMacM!

The inventory tracking feature is available in the QuickBooks Online Plus plan, and you'll want to enable it in the settings, so you can import your items. If you're not using the Plus plan, you can go to your Billing & Subscription page and upgrade your plan.

Enable to Inventory tracking feature in the settings:

  1. Click on the Gear icon in the upper-right hand corner.
  2. Choose Accounts and settings.
  3. Go to Sales, then Products and Services.
  4. Enable Track inventory quantity on hand.
  5. Click Save and Done.

After this, you can import your inventory items using the steps that Charies shared. You can also check out the article she shared.

If you have other questions in mind, you can always go back to this thread.

I'm having the exact same issue when trying to Import Items with QuickBooks Online Plus, and I do have Track Stock on hand enabled. What else could I be missing?

Thanks for joining us in this thread, scstock.

Have you tried the steps provided in the earlier responses? If so, I would recommend reaching to our Chat Support Team for QuickBooks Online International. They can take a closer look at this to determine what's causing the issue.

Here's how:

  1. Click Help in the upper right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Type in "support" or "contact support" and press Enter.
  3. Select Contact Support Team.
  4. Type in "support" or "contact support" again and press Enter.
  5. Click No, I still need help.
  6. Select Contact Support Team one more time.
  7. Click Start a chat

Don't hesitate to reach out to us again if you need anything else.

Yes, I had tried the previous steps.

Contact Support Team is not an option when I type support into the Help dialogue

I worked out what i was doing wrong.

On the sample data, i hadn't scrolled enough to the right and found the stock on hand column. It needs to have a value for it to read the import. for me it was stock on hand qty = 0 all the way down. Worked like a charm

Support were very helpful - I had to use the Sample File as a starting point as for some reason QBO would not accept the word "Stock" from my file but did accept it from the sample file.

Thanks for joining in this conversation, @Atul5. I'll be happy to assist you in importing items as Inventory type into QuickBooks Online (QBO).

First, it's important to note that inventory features are available for QBO Plus, Essentials, and Advanced. If you're not subscribed to one, I recommend upgrading your plan to start tracking your inventory.

If you haven't yet, enable inventory tracking in your settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Sales tab.
  3. Go to the Products and Services section and select the pencil icon to edit.
  4. Switch the Show Product/Service column on sales forms option. Turn on both Track quantity and price/rate and Track inventory quantity on hand.
  5. Click Save, then Done.

If you've already performed these steps, I suggest reviewing the format of your CSV file to ensure you've included Inventory as the item Type. Then, reimport it to reflect the changes.

Additionally, you can group products and services into different categories to keep them organized.

Keep in touch if you have further queries about importing products as inventory type in QBO. Just leave a reply below, and I'll get back to this thread to answer them. Stay safe, and have a good one.

I am using QBO plus. I already performed all above steps still no luck. I have 272 items need to upload from csv files. Can you please check why it’s only giving options non-inventory and services but not inventory?
