The phone number I used to register is from Vietnam, but the company address is in Hong Kong. Why are the codes VN and VNM appearing in the invoice address?

Hi there,
Nice to meet you. I'm new to QuickBooks Online (QBO), and I'm facing an issue with my company address. The address was entered as being in Hong Kong, but the phone number I used to register is from Vietnam. Because of this, the codes "VN" and "VNM" are showing up on my invoices to customers. I've tried to change the address settings, but the issue persists.
Could you please help me resolve this?
Thank you!

Who signed up for your QBO account?

What is the home currency by default? HKD or VND?

Thank you for posting here, @Linh-Mangotiger

Let me share info about correcting the region that shows in your invoice.

Since you utilize a Vietnam registered number and if you selected this country during registration, QuickBooks determines your account as located in this region regardless of your company address.

Thus, changing the registered country is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). If you wish to change the region, you'll need to create a new account by choosing the country first: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/.

You can read this article for more info: Can I change the account's country?

If you wish to cancel your account, you can read this article on how to do it: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription or trial.

Additionally, you can read this article to help you transfer your data before canceling: Move your list to QuickBooks Online.

Hi Bryan_M

Thank you for your information.

We've subscribed to and already paid the yearly fee for Advanced plan, so I prefer not to create another account. What are the potential effects on my account if my company located in Hong Kong but I choose Vietnam as the region in QBO?

I'm here to discuss the potential implications of having a different account region with your company location in QuickBooks Online (QBO), accounts.

While you prefer not to create another account, I recommend consulting with an accountant for tailored advice to ensure your current setup aligns with your business structure.

Here are the possible effects:

  • Tax Compliance Issues- different regions impose varying tax regulations, which can result in compliance errors and complications with local authorities regarding tax reporting.
  • Currency Compatibility- the account will default to the Vietnamese dong (VND), which may complicate transactions, invoicing, and financial reporting if your business primarily operates in Hong Kong dollars (HKD). This could lead to additional conversion efforts.
  • Altered Financial Reporting Standards- reports generated may adhere to Vietnamese standards, potentially misrepresenting your financial status and complicating your analysis and decision-making processes.

Additionally, you can refer to this article to get answers to frequently asked questions about using multi-currency: Multi-currency FAQ.

Let us know if you have other concerns with your company region in QBO. We're here to help you in any way we can.

@Linh-Mangotiger

How long have you been using this QBO account? Less than 60 days?

You can ask for the full refund and sign up for a new QBO Global version for HongKong

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/global/intuit-refunds/request-a-refund-for-your-quickboo...

You can use the migration tool before cancelling your old account to migrate data to the new QBO account.

https://get.transactionpro.com/qbo

Another option, you can purchase a 3rd party migration service.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I tried to sign up for a new account and realized that there isn't an option to choose a region during the process. Instead, I had to go directly to the link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/. The issue is that I need to have a Hong Kong phone number, which doesn't make sense since I'm in Vietnam and only have a Vietnamese phone number. Don't know what I should do now.

If you don't have anyone in HongKong who can help you sign up, you can ask a Global ProAdvisor to help for a small fee. They can sign up for a new QBO Global version for Hong Kong and invite you as a Company Admin. You can use your mobile phone number in Vietnam to be invited. Then they will transfer the Primary Admin access to you and you will continue to use your mobile number to access the Global version of QBO for HongKong.
