I got an error code as shown below: Error code: -81903, type: validation_error Its saying that the credit card cannot be processed or updated.

The card has been used many times in the past for subscription pmts. Note that this is a credit card issued in Trinidad & Tobago. When trying to update the card or re-add the card QB is asking for state and zip code which is not applicable to this situation. Has something changed in the credit card pmt requirements? I have been on this same plan for years with no issue with CC pmts.

There are no updates to the requirements for updating credit card (CC) information used for paying your QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription, EAC Ltd. I'll help you troubleshoot this matter so you can modify your CC information.

The error code 81903 occurs when there's an issue with your financial institution (FI). I recommend logging into your CC provider's website or contacting their Customer Support team to check for any reminders or maintenance.

If there are no alerts on your FI's end, let's see if the problem is caused by excessive browser data. It could be affecting the performance of QBO, leading to unusual behavior in the system. To confirm, please open your QBO account using a private browsing window.

Kindly refer to the keyboard shortcut keys below to proceed:

  • Safari: Command + Option + P
  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox or Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P

After this, please try updating your CC info again. If you can modify it using the private windows, kindly clear your regular browser's cache and cookies to resolve it.

However, you may consider using another supported browser if the issue persists.

Additionally, suppose you need to make necessary changes to your registered info or contact details in your Intuit Account. In that case, you may check this article as your reference: Update your Intuit Account sign-in information.

I'm still available if you have additional queries about updating your billing and subscription details in QBO. Just comment on this thread, and I'll get back to you promptly.

@EAC Ltd

Credit card payment method is not reliable. Consider switching to Paypal.

I'm having the same problem, I'm based in Barbados.  No issues with payment with my CC for the past year, & keep getting the error message when I update the payment method.  Now it says my account is suspended.

Unable to get a 'human' on the chat, keeps diverting to topics which are of no help.

PayPal choice is unavailable or I would use that.

I got an error code as shown below: Error code: -81903, type: validation_error Its saying that the credit card cannot be processed or updated.

To add onto this post I am having the same issue. Our QuickBooks Simple Start Subscription was set to renew on June 20th and as of today (June 24) QuickBooks has noted our account as SUSPENDED with a note saying we were unable to process your payment.

This is the same credit card that we have been using for well over 2 years now and I confirmed the saved information is correct. I checked my CC balance and am nowhere near the spending limit so that is not the issue. The expiration date is not for another year so that isn't the issue. Other transactions from the past few days have cleared without issue so this is solely an issue on Intuit's end to my knowledge.

I clicked the update your card link and re-entered the CVV for our saved card and upon clicking the Save & Use button received an error message saying "Something's not working. Give us a few minutes  and try again. If it still doesn't work, please contact us." Notably, when I clicked the update your card link it takes about 5-10 seconds for the Select a payment method box to appear; I'm not sure if that is related to the problem but thought it would be worth mentioning. After waiting 30 minutes I made a second attempt and received the same error.

Since that didn't work I instead clicked the update your card link and this time clicked +Add new. I entered all of my credit card payment details again. And when I click the Save & Use button I received an error message saying "Unable to process your request at this time. Error code: -81903, type VALIDATION_ERROR." Notably, when I clicked the +Add new button, the option to pay with a Bank Transfer is greyed out with a note: "Some Payment Options are not available due to pending in collection" whatever that means.

Seeing as this post is the only instance of error code -81903 ever being mentioned on the forums and it occurred within the past few weeks I presume this must be related to an update on QuickBooks end in the past month as our last payment on May 20th processed without issue and the first mention of this error code on the forums in June 3 so this issue must be related to a change that occurred some time between those two dates.

If someone on QuickBooks Team could look into what is causing this error code our team would appreciate it.

This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have when renewing your subscription, Christopher. Let me route you to the best help who can assist you with this process and get you back on track.

Since the Community is a public forum, and we'll need to collect some personal information to pull up your account, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can verify your account and assist you in updating and renewing it accordingly. To do this, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Select the Payroll topic in the What can we help you with? page.
  6. Choose a way to connect (Have us call you or Chat with us).

Once everything is all set, you may want to manage your QBO subscription, whether updating the payment method, modifying your plan, or checking your billing records. For a complete guide on executing these actions, check out this article: Manage billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be here in the Community if you have other concerns about your subscription and managing business transactions in QuickBooks. Please don't hesitate to leave a reply below.

Thank you for reaching Rea_M,

First, I want to apologize to the QuickBooks Team, this has turned out to be an internal issue caused by one of our team members. I have been informed one of our team members used the credit card for an international purchase which triggered a fraud alert and locked use of the account. They of course had not disclosed the attempted payment nor fraud alert until our discussion this morning when the QuickBooks payment issue came up. We have spoken with our bank’s fraud team to have our account unlocked and our subscription payment has now been processed successfully.

So for anyone reading this, if you have a credit card account shared with your team make sure you have rules in place so they know to contact the finance team BEFORE attempting to make an international purchase and even more so INFORM THE FINANCE TEAM WHEN THE CARD GETS DECLINED FOR ATTEMPTING TO MAKE AN INTERNATIONAL PURCHASE.

What an absolute waste of everyone’s time…
