working offline 2023

Hi, I am a desktop pro 2017 (stand alone) user and hear that I will not be able to continue with the program. I have no problem paying a subscription fee for something I use (going online) but where I work from in South Africa, will not be able to be online because of poor comms network services in SA. What can I do to continue on desktop offline?

Thanks for the prompt reply, @dagro. Let me help with your QuickBooks version and share some insights when downloading the program.

The only way to know your QuickBooks version is to check the purchase information. We can check the Sales Tax company preferences to know your version in QuickBooks. These are the tax codes of each region:

United States - Sales Tax
Canada - GST
United Kingdom - VAT

Also, you can do it online every time the program needs to be updated. Other than that, you're still able to access your QuickBooks Desktop.

For your other question, Yes, the license number will still be valid if you download the program to your laptop. For more details, see this article: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. It is a US article but work with your program.

Additionally, let me share these links to help you update your data and know the price change in QuickBooks Desktop. These are US articles but work the same with your QuickBooks Desktop:

There are only country version QuickBooks Desktop; USA, Canada, and UK. Can you tell us if it's a UK or USA version? I also wanted to ask where do you see or read an update that you can no longer use it?

I had an online chat and a tele conversation with a lady from Intuit telling me that I have to go online from 1 April 2023. Did not save the names and conversations...

I spoke to them last week.

There was some confusion when it was explained to me but I think I got the message.. I believe that you may not be able/willing to support QBD after 1 April, but it will still be working.

What will happen if I want to download the program on a new laptop in future?

Will the licence number still be valid?

I'm still a bit confused. Will the standalone US Mac desktop version (we use no online services), still work June 1st? And if I want to switch to online uses later I would have to go with 2023 mac desktop? Is that correct? Trying not to spend 549 or whatever it is.. first glance looks like you have to upgrade but believe now it's only if you want online stuff (payroll, banking, etc)

If you are using the one time license, you should be fine after May 2023. You may need to purchase a new license when using a new machine with a newer version of MacOS.

Hi, @Thesmelser. Thanks for joining the thread and posting your concern. Allow me to share additional information about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) discontinuation.

Please note that after May 31, 2023, your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020 software will be discontinued. This means you no longer have access to QBDT Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services through QBDT 2020. Then, starting June 1, 2023, you'll no longer receive critical security updates. However, even without the add-on online banking service, your QBDT software will continue to work for you.

If you still want to receive those other services and security updates, you'll want to upgrade your account to the latest QBDT for Mac version (2023) or migrate to QuickBooks Online. Please know that we're not forcing you to move to QuickBooks Online if it'll cost you so much.
