Migrating to On-Line from Desktop Problem

When trying to export my company file to migrate to on-line I am getting a "You will need to update your software to access your Intuit Account here" message that is preventing the export of the data file ?

Please assists. It seems somewhat nonsensical that to migrate from Desktop to On-Line one needs to first update the Desktop version ?

Looking forward to a solution.

Thanks.

Simon.

Do you need to convert data from QB Desktop US version to QB Online US version?

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

If you are running an outdated version (2019 or older), you can utilize the trial version for QB Desktop 2023 to upgrade your data and convert it to QB Online.

I want to make sure your file conversion is seamless, @Migrating to On-Line Problem.

When you want to covert from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, you need to have the desktop updated to the latest release. Before anything else, may I know what version of QuickBooks do you have? You may check the current release from the following:

If your current company file is not updates, you can manually install the update patch outside QuickBooks and see if it makes a difference. See these steps:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Choose US for the country.
  3. Below the survey, click on the standard setup link.
  4. On the next page, enter your QuickBooks version to update then press Search.
  5. To download the patch, click the link for Get the latest updates.
  6. At the bottom once the patch is downloaded completely, wait until it launches automatically. You can also double-click on it to apply the update. See this sample screenshot:

After updating file, you can follow these steps to start the conversion process:

  1. Make sure to sign in as an admin to the desktop company file you want to move.
  2. Press Ctrl + 1 to open the Product Information window.
  3. On your keyboard, press Ctrl + B + Q, then select OK to display the export window.
  4. On the export window, select Get started.
  5. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  6. Use Choose online company, then select the QuickBooks Online company you want to replace with your company file.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. If you track inventory in QuickBooks Desktop:
  9. Add the keyword “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
  10. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

I've included some related links to aid you with the conversion process:

Thank you for getting back to us, @Migrating to On-Line Problem.

I can help you with exporting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Can you tell me more about the version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Premier that you're using? You need to have the desktop updated to the latest release to move your data to QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can follow the steps outlined by Jen_D above.

For more information on how to get your desktop file ready and move your data to QuickBooks Online, check out this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

After getting your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO), here's how you can set up your QBO account, manage your users and their access, and many more: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.

Let me know in the Reply section if you need further help exporting your data from QBDT to QBO. Keep safe, and have a wonderful day!

Migrating to On-Line from Desktop Problem

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding confirmation about the version of QuickBooks Desktop you're using. With this, let me discuss further details on how migrating your data works in QuickBooks. Then, ensure you're able to transfer your file by performing some alternative ways to achieve your goal.

When you migrate data from QBDT to Online, you'll have to ensure that you use the same international version. Since you've mentioned that your company is in South Africa, this is currently discontinuing our Desktop offering in the said place.

Additionally, we have to temporarily hit the pause button on all QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online migrations, starting on June 16. This means that we won't be able to help you transfer your QuickBooks Desktop data over to QuickBooks Online.

However, you can look for a 3rd party app outside QuickBooks that will allow you to convert your data from QBDT to QBO. Also, you can still manually move your data across using the Excel CSV files. This way it helps you transfer your data from QBDT to Excel and import it to QBO.

On the other hand, we'll update this space as soon as the new and improved migration process is back online. Then, rest assured that the new migration process will allow you to move larger files with no size limitations.

Lastly, I'm adding this article to further guide you in effectively managing your business using QBO: Help guide for QuickBooks Online. This contains topics about different accounting strategies, banking, and payments.

Get back to me here if you have further questions about migrating your data in QuickBooks. I'd be more than happy to answer it for you. Have a nice day!
