How to add discount per item in an invoice ?

Hi there, Travis94ZX.

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and share details about adding a discount on invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The Add Subtotal option is located below the Product/Service column. Also, if you turned on the Discount feature in the Account and Settings, you should have a Discount percent/value section below the invoice's Subtotal.

Below is the sample screenshot from my test account.

If you don't see these option, let's sign in to your QBO using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is already full of frequently accessed page resources (cache and cookies), causing some unusual responses.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).

If everything looks good, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache to refresh the system. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

To know more about managing and adding discounts on an invoice in QBO, consider checking out this article: Add a discount to an invoice or sales receipt in QuickBooks Online.

I also recommend visiting our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

Please let me know in the comment section below if you have more questions about invoices or anything else. I'm more than willing to assist. Keep safe.

How to add discount per item in an invoice ?

This is not the option.
If I have 10 different types of items and want to add different discounts to each group of products. I will need to do a few subtotals, separate groups from single items and add a few "discount products" with different discounts and try to not make a mistake because of this overloaded page.

Another thing is the customer - when he received an invoice he sees the price ot the item and call me saying " I thought you gave me cheaper price than it shows on the incoice" and I have to explain to him that he need either look down the page and see applied discount on whole invoice or check subtotal of the grouped items and check discount over there. And I got another question straight away - " So what is the price of the item than?"

Customers are lazy, the want to see item price on the right, final price with discount included.
It is especially important if you give a quote on the list of the materials and they compare to the competitors by line... what they see is a higher price straight away. They do not look at subtotal and "discount item" and calculate after the price. It affects business a lot when you cannot provide clear pricing.
Quickbooks in India, France already have this feature. It is simple and works fine. I asked about this feature 5 years ago and nobody even touch this question. I see many questions in your discussion board, but the only advice is to do "discount item"
Sad.

How to add discount per item in an invoice ?

I just started using Quickbooks.  I can't believe that the basic feature of adding a line item discount is not available or that it requires a workaround to apply a discount to a specific line item.  This is ridiculous.  I did get five Quickbook points for reading an ariticle.  I would prefer Quickbooks spend it programming energy on implimenting a basic feature that has been in discussion for at least three years.

To be clear, you should be able to enter a product and apply a specific discount to that product without much effort.  This is a basic feature of any invoice system.
