Small Business and Self-Employed

Fortunate Nkateko Khoza’s QuickBooks story

In a world that has been impacted by COVID-19 businesses, small and large have been forced to adapt to the changing times.

For QuickBooks supporting small business owners, teams and communities is important now more than ever before. With the Small-Business Tough campaign QuickBooks empowers and celebrates small businesses across South Africa that have not only survived, but thrived through challenging times.

One key story is that of Fortunate Nkateko Khoza who continued to build her business during an unthinkable time for many, and has seen it grow in leaps and bounds.

While times were uncertain Fortunate decided to take the plunge with Lufi Boutique. It is a decision she made after careful consideration and jumped in wholeheartedly to forge her own path.

“For me, going back to the community and trying to train people is more fulfilling than anything” – Fortunate Nkateko Khoza

Small-Business Tough

QuickBooks continues to celebrate the determination and resilience of small businesses across South Africa and the Small-Business Tough campaign, featuring Fortunate, showcases QuickBooks values and commitment to businesses. It focused on small businesses across South Africa and how they are champions of diversity, resilience and growth.

It also focused on business owners who have diversified and thrived during COVID-19 and trying circumstances and Fortunate of Lufi Boutique is a prime example.

The campaign also continually highlighted QuickBooks’commitment to small businesses, through accounting and overall business efficiencies – allowing business owners to focus on keeping the passion alive and do what is needed for the business to thrive and grow.

Grow Your Business with QuickBooks

Fortunate Nkateko Khoza of Lufi Boutique

A self taught fashion designer, Fortunate opened Lufi Boutique during a time unthinkable to many. The salon owner of Lufi Boutique works around the clock to keep her customers happy.

She grew up passionate about both design and beauty and worked from a young age. While she had experience in running a business, opening a salon has long since been something she has wanted to do and when she saw the opportunity, she decided to take the plunge.

“I’m doing something that I love, that I am passionate about, I don’t even feel like I’m going to work.”

Between juggling businesses and the impact COVID-19 Fortunate has had her share of struggles but has bounced back and is better than ever. The support from the community has been overwhelming and has helped carry through the challenging times.

How QuickBooks helps and enables Fortunate

Investing time in her business has been critical to its growth, success as well as how to improve and change and ultimately grow and help give back.

Other key areas for Fortunate are using data, including purchasing patterns and trends to forecast demand and make changes and improvements based on this.

“Invest more time in your business as it grows and identify more opportunities. Also be consistent, if you are going to offer something to people and they love it. Keep giving it to them.”

Stepping back is critical, and especially so when implementing systems and technology. With QuickBooks’ smart, up-to-date business insights, Fortunate never has to slow down to make informed decisions. Thanks to its business intelligence additions and ease of use, no matter where she is, she can keep track of what’s most important to her business.

In-between juggling her businesses, she has used QuickBooks mobile app, to review her incomings and outgoings, all while keeping her business on track.
