Customize line order in invoice

I need to enter a date in invoice, but the invoice automatically organize the line for me by date order.  How can I disable that function, so I can decide which line go first.

When you enter service dates for invoice, the system will automatically sort the lines by date order. This is the default function in QuickBooks which is currently non-customizable. See this:


Being able to print or preview invoices with random service dates order would be a great idea. While this isn't available, you can either stick to the normal setting or remove the date on the custom forms.

In QB Desktop, I can do this by adding a column in the invoice, I can enter anything such as a date in that column and won't be changed by QB default.

I am having an issue with reorganizing my rows in QB online on my laptop. I can do it just fine on my desktop as well as other laptops but not this one. Any ideas on why this would happen?

Allow me to chime in and help ensure this is taken care of for you.


Since everything looks good when using other devices, let's sign in to your QBO using a private browser (incognito) on the laptop in question. There are times that the browser is already full of frequently accessed page resources (cache and cookies), causing some unusual response.


Here's how:


  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).


If it's successful, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache to refresh the system. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

That's what I used to do in QB Desktop version.  We just purchased the online subscription and now I can't add a customized line item (new column) in the invoice template.  In the online version you have very little options in being able to adjust the invoice template to track your business's unique requirements (we are a training company and need to identify the instructor and location which changes many times within the same invoice).  I'm feeling pretty disappointed by this and truly hope their development team is aware of the negative impact this is having on their customers).  I loved QB desktop, but so far the online version has been a let down.
