Hi,
I want to know how to transfer all my data from QB online back to QB desktop? I have used Online for nearly a year and would never have converted from Desktop 2016 in the first place if I had trialled it first. Unfortunately my Accountant recommended it (thought she has now removed all her other clients back to desktop!) so I went ahead and signed up for it. The list of faults are too lengthy to go in to and quite frankly I just want to get back to a proper accounts package again. I have bought and downloaded QB desktop 2020 and have had countless conversations with the 'Help desk' regarding exporting my data back . I have been told it cant be done or that I can only transfer some of my data but not all the transactions. I have far too many transactions to be able to manually input them again! I am aware that there are other programs that will enable me to transfer my data but I would
Hello TaynaM1,
In your Quickbooks Online, you can export by CSV files for your customers, suppliers, products and services and chart of accounts out and into your Quickbooks Desktop product.
To export customer, suppliers out of quickbooks online is if you go to the cog wheel>under tools>export data>lists>toggle on suppliers and customer>export data out. this will move the data out and on to an excel spreadsheet.
to export chart of accounts out of online, if you go to accounting>chart of accounts>run report top right hand corner> 3rd icon in next to printer and cog wheel is a page that is export>click drop down arrow on that icon and export to excel.
Any transactions you need to take out i would csv the files again out of the online product and ask your accountant if they can put them into your desktop as they have the function to do that but normal user doesn't.
I have downloaded the QB desktop 2020 on to my computer already do I need to set that up before import everything or just carry on importing? Can you please confirm that this will export all my transactions from online to desktop? when i have rung your help desk i just keep being told that there is no way to migrate the data. Who can I speak to that can talk me through the process?
Hello TanyaM1,
Like I have said previously you will not be able to bring across transactions unless the import CSV files with transactions on via an accountants edition which your accountant will have so they can do it for you. If they want to speak to someone about this process this is the number for the desktop team who will be able to help you with this query. Call 0808 168 9595
Just got off the phone to them again and they say it can't be done!! So you have my data which I cannot export in its entirety. It is something that you do over in the States but not in the UK. Your help desk contradict everything you have just told me. I have spent most of my working day trying to sort this out. Someone needs to actually sort out a proper solution not just pass the buck over to the client!
I shall be emailing a complaint over ASAP.
Hello TanyaM1,
I have confirmed this is possible and when you rang desktop we think they have miss understood what you were saying therefore told you, you cannot do this. I have reached out to our desktop team and they have confirmed there is no direct migration from one to the other, but like stated in previous posts you can export your data out of quickbooks online and into desktop and told you which ones you can do as below.

You may have two options to migrate the data transactions:
1. Utilize the migration tool (i.e exporter for QBO, importer for QBD)

2. Purchase a 3rd party conversion service
