Client who does not want to have QB subscription

My new client does not have a QB subscription and does not want to have it. Can I still connect to their bank account and import their transactions?

Do you have a QBO Accountant account? You can open a new account for your client from there. Otherwise, you have to open a new account separately.

Hello Bamafinancials, Thanks for contacting the Community. You would need to have a client subscription to do that, as you would need a set of books with a banking section to do the connection with and import the transactions into, so if your client does not want one, it would mean you would be paying for one for them. If that makes sense.

Thank you EmmaM. SO how can I set up the subscription for them which I will eventually pay for?

I can certainly help you in setting up a QuickBooks subscription, @bamafinancials.

You can visit the QuickBooks Plans & Pricing page to choose your QuickBooks Online subscription. Then, you can set up your client's company file. Once done, you’ll want to add yourself as their accountant so you can start managing their account and transactions.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the new account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then select Manage Users.
  3. Click Accounting firms.
  4. Enter your email address, then select Invite.

You’ll receive an invite email link after. Just accept the invitation and sign in with your user ID and password. Then, QuickBooks connects their account to your firm and adds them to your client list.

When you link their bank account to the program, recent transactions are automatically downloaded and categorized for your review. This means you don’t have to import their transactions manually unless they’re older than 90 days.

You can use these resources to get started with QuickBooks and how to connect their bank accounts and credit cards using Open Banking:

Since your client doesn’t have a QuickBooks subscription and doesn’t want to have it, you can also ask for a file from their bank and then add those transactions.

For more information about Open Banking, you can use this article: Open Banking FAQs.
