How to make a project be a sub-customer so I can run accurate budgets?

I have successfully created a sub-customer which appears correctly indented in my Sales > Customers list. I have a project in the 'Projects' module with the same name as the sub customer. The specific problem: When I go to Projects > New project (dropdown) > Convert from sub-customer, the screen explicitly states: 'You don't have any sub-customers that can be converted to projects.' This is incorrect, as my sub-customer clearly exists in my customer list.

You'll want to review your sub-customer's details and ensure you've ticked the box beside Is a sub-customer in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @laura192. We'll help you resolve this so you can successfully convert it to a project and run accurate budgets.

It's essential to verify that you've correctly added the customer as a sub-customer when setting them up in QBO. In this process, you'll need to set them up under a parent customer so the system can easily recognize the command and proceed to show them in the results when converting a sub-customer to a project. To verify if you've set it up properly, here's how:

  1. On the left navigational bar, go to the Sales tab and select Customers.
  2. Locate the sub-customer that you created and then click on the customer.
  3. Click the Edit button and then scroll down to the Is a sub-customer section to review if the box has checkmark. If not, please ensure to tick the box beside it.
  4. Once done, click the Save button.

After verifying that you've ticked the box beside Is a sub-customer, proceed to convert the sub-customer to a project. Refer to this page for more details: Change sub-customers into projects QuickBooks Online.
