I am a Proadvisor with a client who has a QBO sub thro' my wholesale billing. They want to cancel the sub, but I can only seem to transfer it to them?

I pay this clients QBO sub through my wholesale billing. The business has closed and they no longer need my services, so I want to cancel their subscription. But I seem to only have the option to transfer it to them? They do not want to continue to pay a subscription. I am sure you used to be able to cancel - where has it gone?!

Hello there, Liz. I understand that losing a client can be a difficult experience, especially when you have built a long long-lasting experience.

Let me provide insight for you to cancel your client subscription in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To begin with, only the primary admin can cancel your client subscription, if you're the primary admin you can directly cancel or delete your client. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. If you're currently the primary admin for your client's company, make sure your customer assigns a new primary admin.
  2. If the client is part of your ProAdvisor discount plan, remove them from it. Your client gets full access to their accounts after they update their billing info.
  3. Sign in to QuickBooks Online Accountant as an admin.
  4. Select Clients.
  5. Find the client you want to delete and select their name.
  6. In the Edit client dropdown, select Delete permanently.
  7. Select Yes to confirm.

However, if not, you can only transfer billing to client option to remove your client from your wholesale billing and let your client cancel it. Once transferred, your client will be charged for the subscription if the client doesn't want to get charged they can reach out to our support team.

To remove the subscription:

  1. Make your client the primary admin of their own company.
  2. Head to your QBOA practice, and go to the Gear icon to select Billing and Subscriptions.
  3. Navigate to the Accountant-billed subscriptions tab.
  4. Select the client you want to remove.
  5. From the Select action drop-down menu, select Transfer billing to client.

After completing these steps, your client will have to enter their billing information and be billed at a regular rate with the amount according to their plan version. After doing this, they can cancel their QBO subscription.

Please let me know if you have any further questions about canceling the client's subscription or anything else related to QuickBooks, Liz. I'll be happy to help. Take care!
