I want to add a password to the app, not Face ID or the iOS passcode as these aren’t secure

Hello there, Danny. Having a secure password seems essential to you right now. Let me help you on adding a password to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) app.

A strong password is essential when using the QBO app, as it contains private data and transactions. You can use the password manager app to sign in to your QBO app. Please note that this feature is only available on iOS.

Add your QuickBooks Online username and password to your device's password manager app before signing in to the QuickBooks Online app. It will enable the key icon to appear where you enter your user ID the next time you sign in. I'll show you how:

  1. To open your password manager, click the key icon.
  2. Choose the password manager sign.
  3. Enter your password or use Touch ID with your fingerprint to access the password manager.
  4. Once the password manager opens, click your QuickBooks Online username.

On the other hand, you may visit this article as a guide when adding users that can help you manage your business transactions inside QBO: Add and manage users in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have more questions about setting up a password in your QBO app. I'm more than happy to help. Keep safe!

I want to add a password to the app, not Face ID or the iOS passcode as these aren’t secure

Thank you for your reply, however that doesn’t really solve my problem. I want the app to continue to require some kind of password / code each time I close / minimise it, I don’t see something in the settings for that?

the problem with your suggestion alone means I need to remember to sign out of the app every time, which isn’t realistic.

thanks

I also want to remove the mobile phone associated with the account, otherwise if someone steals my phone they can easily get a code sent to the phone to bypass the password requirement altogether. Please advise how I can do this?

I appreciate the clarifications, danny. I'll be glad to help you with this.

To achieve this, you can consider setting up an authenticator app. With this, you can verify your account without having to rely on Short Message Service (SMS) or voice call verification.

Please note that the authenticator app requires two-step verification. Two-step verification is a setting for your Intuit Account where you need to verify, using a code sent to your mobile phone, that you're the one accessing your account. To put it simply, if you plan to remove your number, you won't be able to set up the authenticator app. The app needs your number to function.

To Turn on two-step verification, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Intuit Account and select Sign in & security.
  2. In the "2-step verification" section, select Turn on, then Set up.
  3. Make sure your phone number is correct. Choose the method of verification you prefer - Text message or Voice message, and select Continue.
  4. Enter the code we send you, then select Continue.
  5. Enter your account password, then select Continue.

After you turn on two-step verification, you can use your preferred authenticator app to create your verification codes. Follow the steps to get setup:

  1. Download an authenticator app from the iOS App store or Google Play by searching for “authenticator”.
  2. Sign in to your Intuit Account and select Sign in & security.
  3. Select Authenticator and click Set up authenticator app.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Moreover, if you don't want to use the authenticator app, you can use an app locker to secure your account. An app locker typically does not require a phone number for its functionality. These tools are designed to prevent unauthorized access to apps and enhance the overall security of the device.

For more information on multi-factor authentication or two-step verification, you can refer to this article: Verify your Intuit Account with multi-factor authentication or two-step verification

Additionally, if you need help adding users to manage your business transactions in QBO, you can refer to this article: Add and manage users in QuickBooks Online.

If you have further questions about setting up a password in your QBO app, feel free to let me know. I'm always happy to help. Stay safe!

I want to add a password to the app, not Face ID or the iOS passcode as these aren’t secure

I have set up the 2FA using an Authenticator app, but I want to remove the option for a code to be text or called to my mobile number. This is not required in order for the authentication app to work, now that it is set up on my account.

if my phone is stolen, like what happened to my business partner this week - it’s easy for them to bypass the login security by simply getting a code text to the phone they have stolen.

please confirm how I can remove this option, so that I have to put in a password and 2FA code to an authentication app only - no option for text or phone code.

We appreciate you dropping your additional concern here in the thread, @Danny. Let me give you insights about the two-step Authenticator app inside QBO.

For security purposes to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your account, the app may request a mobile number. If you need to remove your number from your authenticator app, you must contact the provider of the authenticator app you use. They can assist you in achieving your goals and answering any additional questions you may have about the app.

I’m not trying to remove my phone number from the Authenticator app, I want to remove the option to request a login for intuit with a text to my mobile number like the screenshot. Otherwise it’s too easy for someone to do this if they steal my phone. Please advise?

Hello there, Danny. Thank you for providing us with the details and screenshot. I appreciate your effort in helping us resolve the issue. We had to remove the screenshot as it contained your email address, which could pose a security risk.
