Import all my data and start a fresh

My QB account has been showing up bank connection errors etc for a while and generally not running correctly as it should.

QB offers everything I need as a self employed , small business. So I really don’t want to switch else where.

is it possible to import all of my data to date (well end of the tax year just ended) say onto a memory stick and re start my QB from fresh?

Import all my data and start a fresh

Should have mentioned I’ve been intouch with QB to try and fix the errors but nothing so far has worked, it’s only caused more issues and stress.
so my next option is either this- if it’s possible or switch software. Which I don’t want to do really

Import all my data and start a fresh

Good evening, @jenny Mc1

May I ask which bank you are using and the error you've encountered in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE)? This is for us to check if there are any similar issues that our Product Engineers are currently resolving. Nevertheless, yes, it's possible to start fresh in QBSE. I can guide you through the process.

To save your data on a USB memory stick, export your financial reports and transactions. Here's how you can export your financial reports:

  1. In your QBSE, go to the Reports menu.
  2. Find the report you want to download.
  3. Select the period or tax year from the dropdown.
  4. Select View or Download.
  5. Select the arrow icon ▼ and then the Print or Download.

Here are also the steps for exporting your transactions:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Use the TypeAccount, and Time period ▼ dropdowns to sort the transactions.
  3. Select the Export icon. Note: Receipts aren't exported. You can download them from specific transactions. Or go to the Reports menu and download receipts for specific tax years.

Once you've exported your data, you can proceed to delete your data within QBSE. For the detailed steps, kindly refer to this article: Delete bank and transaction data in QuickBooks Self-Employed. During the deletion process, I'd like to add the following as a precaution:

  • This process deletes all transactions and any special calculations.
  • This change is permanent and can't be undone.
  • After you delete your accounts, you may still see non-zero numbers. These are leftover projections from your old data. If you decide to reconnect your bank accounts, these numbers update automatically.

Next, you can reimport your transactions within the software using the exported data.

Let me add this article as a future reference should you need to re-categorise your transactions in QBSE after reimporting: Categorise transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed

We'll be here in the Community if you need further assistance starting over in QBSE. We're committed to offering ongoing support. Take care.
