I want to upgrade from self-employed to the VAT plan but I am worried my data will not transfer. If I upgrade the plan will I have to start again?
Hi Screen Doctor It's not possible to upgrade or migrate the data from the self employed account to one of our small business products so you can account for VAT. Realistically the only thing you can do is export/import your invoices, we've contained a link below which explains what you can achieve. If you do want to subscribe to a small business product and would like to use the same email address as the self employed product we recommend, before subscribing to the small business account, that you login to http://accounts.intuit.com using the same credentials as you use to login to your account with, change the email address and user ID to an alternative one that you have access to, subscribe to the small business product using the original email address/user ID, ensure that you have exported all the data you need from the self employed account and then cancel it. We must make you aware that once you cancel the self employed product that you have to re-subscribe to access it. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-uk/cancel-products-or-services/switch-from-quickbooks...
So there is no way for quickbooks to integrate with its own system? That is very frustrating, only of the only reasons I want to upgrade is because I want to be able to split up expenses so everything isn't labelled as "cost of goods for resale" but there is no way to change the category
Hello Screen Doctor, There's no way to integrate the full file from one product type to another that is right. The Self Employed product does not work the same way in that there are set categories as they relate to the expense categories on the Self Assessment whereas in the Online product you can create your own chart of accounts.
