Thank you for reaching out, Phil. I'm here to help you connect your bank account to QuickBooks.
Before we begin, could you provide the name of your financial institution and let us know if you encountered any errors or prompts? These details will help us provide you with precise information.
There are several reasons why you can't connect your bank in QuickBooks. I'll outline a few potential causes below:
- We have multiple names from your bank on our list. Double-check that you've selected the correct listing or tried all possible connections. Search by the banking sign-in URL to ensure the proper listing.
- Your bank doesn't provide access to all sorts of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
- Your bank is undergoing system maintenance.
- Your bank is not a participating financial institution.
Given these possibilities, I recommend contacting your bank to confirm if there are any ongoing maintenance activities or inquire about connecting with QuickBooks. If everything is in order, please use the correct bank name when linking your account.
Additionally, we can perform some browser troubleshooting steps to determine if the issue is related to the browser. Please sign in to your account and connect your bank in an incognito or private browser window. You can use the following shortcut keys to open a private window:
- Safari 11 or newer: ⌘+Shift+N
- Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
- Safari: Command+Shift+N
If you can connect your bank account using the private window, please clear your browser's cache to restore the program to its default settings. However, if you get the same result, let's use other supported web browsers to connect your bank account.
In the meantime, if the troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, you can manually import your bank transactions into QuickBooks. Here's how:
- Go to the Transactions menu, then select the Bank transactions tab.
- Select the tile for the account you want to upload the transactions into.
- Click the Link account dropdown, then click the Upload from file.
- Hit the Drag and drop or select files and select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then, select Continue.
- In the QuickBooks account dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into. Then, select Continue.
- Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Continue.
- Select the transactions you like to import, then click Continue.
- Click the Yes and Done.
Once the transactions are imported, it's important to match and categorize them to ensure they are correctly allocated to the appropriate accounts in QuickBooks.
