Uncleared transactions on bank rec

There are uncleared transactions on a bank rec that have cleared. I realized I dated a rec Oct 24 instead of Oct 23. How do I reverse a future rec and not a previous rec?

Uncleared transactions on bank rec

My main goal is to help you match your QuickBooks with your real-life record, kwilly. Let's work together to rectify the reconciliation.

When reconciling your accounts, you compare transactions in QuickBooks Desktop to those on your bank statement. The bank statement is always the source of truth. From there, you'll know the transactions you must reconcile, and there should be no difference in the ending balance.

Since a future transaction is reconciled previously, let's perform a mini-reconciliation method to correct this. Beforehand, take note of your ending balance from the most recent reconciliation.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select Reconcile.
  2. Choose the bank account with the transactions you need to reconcile.
  3. In the Date of Statement field, enter the date for an "off-cycle reconciliation." This date can be any date between your last reconciliation and the next scheduled one.
  4. When you enter an "off-cycle" date, QuickBooks will remind you that you're doing a mini reconciliation. It puts the previous unreconciled transactions back without affecting the "cycle" they follow.
  5. In the Ending Balance field, enter the balance of your last successful reconciliation. Then, click Continue.
  6. On the Reconcile page, check off the cleared transactions.
  7. Make sure the Difference field shows $0.00.
  8. When everything looks good, hit Reconcile Now.

For more details, please see this article: Reconcile previously deleted and re-entered checking or credit card transactions. This is a US article but can be used for UK users.

Finally, after you reconcile, I suggest selecting Display to view the Reconciliation report or Print to save a handy copy. If you need to review a reconciliation report later on, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, then select Reports Center.
  2. Search and open a Previous Reconciliation report.
  3. Select the account you reconciled, then either DetailSummary, or Both.

I'm always here to provide further assistance if you have any questions or need additional clarification regarding reconciliation. I'll do my best to provide clear explanations, offer step-by-step instructions, and suggest solutions to help you resolve any problems you may face.
