Can’t find categories when trying to sort transactions?

I'll share some troubleshooting steps you can perform to resolve the missing categories in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @dtkitchens1.

Recently, we've received reports about users encountering missing data, such as categories, when using the iOS QBO mobile app. However, this issue is now resolved as part of the most recent iOS release. To apply the fix, we recommend uninstalling your QBO app and installing the most recent version in the App Store.

If you're using the web version, verify if the categories are made inactive. To do that:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the Gear icon beside the Printer icon, then check the Include inactive box.
  3. You'll see the inactive accounts with the (deleted) indicator. To make them active again, click Make Active.

If the accounts are active, let's isolate the issue by performing some browser troubleshooting steps. First, open your account in an incognito window by following these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once resolved, proceed to clear your browser's cache. Alternatively, utilize another compatible browser.

If the issue persists, it's best to reach out to our customer support team. They can walk you through the troubleshooting steps using a screen-sharing tool and initiate an investigation if necessary.

Moreover, here's a guide to help you ensure your transactions in QBO match those on your bank statement: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

You can always rely on the Community team if you have other concerns regarding categorising your transactions. We're here to help whenever you need it. Take care.
