I pay my electric bills by direct debit monthly. What is the best way to record and pay the bill when it arrives?

Recording and paying bills are easy, @RHS.

You'll want to go to the + New menu and enter the bill from there. Let me guide you how.

In your QuickBooks Online (QBO):

  1. Go to the + New menu.
  2. Select Bill.
  3. Choose a supplier from the Supplier drop-down.
  4. Fill in the needed details.
  5. Click Save and close once done.

Then to pay the bills:

  1. Select the + New menu.
  2. Click Pay Bills.
  3. Select the appropriate Payment account.
  4. Enter the needed information and click Save and close when done.

You can also check this great article for more details: Enter and pay bills.

Also, I encourage checking our Manage Suppliers and Expenses page for future reference. From there, you can read great articles and learn some best practices in managing your suppliers.

You can always get back to me in case you have other concerns or questions in the future. I'm always here to back you up. Have a great day and take care!

Hello @trading,

May I know what is the direct debit you're paying for? Is it for your bills or your employee's payroll? If this is for your payroll, can you also share the type of your payroll subscription?

Keep me posted in the comments below. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi @trading,

I'm here to share insight on your query about recording your pension payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I suggest checking your payroll journal entries for each employee, so you'll know which liability accounts for pension are affected. These journal entries are automatically created after every pay run.

Here's how to look for them:

  1. Click the Search (magnifying glass) icon.
  2. Tap the Advance Search link at the bottom.
  3. Select Journal Entries on the Search drop-down menu.
  4. Apply other filters if necessary, then press the Search button.
  5. On the list, locate the payroll journal entry that applies to your pension payments.

Once you know those liability accounts affected for your employee's pensions, you can create an expense account to manually record a payment. If you're unsure of the accounts to use, I recommend consulting your bookkeeper or accountant to ensure your books remain accurate.

If you have time, you can also visit this article: Workplace pensions in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll. It's a step by step guide on how you can set up workplace pensions in QBO.

Feel free to leave a comment below in case you have other concerns. I'll be sure to get back to you.

I pay my electric bills by direct debit monthly. What is the best way to record and pay the bill when it arrives?

Hi can someone please help me?  The chat doesn't work for intuit online payroll help. When I try to get a live chat going, it'll have me fill in the form, then submit, then says waiting... then says connection cannot be established.  There's no one to talk to on the phone either.  I have a simple problem for intuit online payroll--it had been auto debiting the monthly fee but we canceled the card due to fraud. Now, when i go into intuit payroll, it says "We are unable to bill you for your monthly subscription fee because you have not completed your enrollment to be billed by direct debit. Please update your billing method and enter a valid credit card for billing purposes or contact us."  So I tried to click on the first link to update but when i type a new card in, it doesn't resolve the problem. Then, I have no idea what else to do in the electronic services section. Also, the contact us doesn't work for reasons I explained earlier.  Someone please contact me to help.
