Hey,
I'm not a QuickBooks user and haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I will soon.
I'm the lead developer of time and attendance / clocking software, and we'd like to integrate it with QuickBooks if possible. However, I have no knowledge of how and what Quickbooks supports in terms of Timesheets and Payroll.
Our software knows the amount of hours an employee worked, what rates (IE Normal, Overtime but not the actual monetary value). Can we allow our users to import this into QuickBooks payroll? If it's possible is this via manual CSV File import or a Rest API or something else?
Thank you for your time!

Hey,
Thank you. It does make more sense to post in the developer community.
I originally posted here because I believed a regular user could import CSV Files containing this type of data.
Is that correct? I can't remember fully, but I think I may have seen a guide on how to do this in the Docs. It wasn't clear if this was explicitly for Quickbooks Time, not the other products.
Thank you again and I'll head over to the dev community and the resources you've sent.
QB Online or QB Desktop?
To be honest I'd need a way to provide this data to both Desktop and Online if it's supported.
So either really, do they support CSV Import? I'm going through the developer docs right now as I've only just foudn the time, but I'm assuming online will have an API or another way of putting this data in.
We truly appreciate your interest in collaborating with QuickBooks, Dylan. Although CSV file imports for payroll data are unsupported in QuickBooks Desktop and Online, I have a viable option that could work for you and your users.
Both programs offer options for integrating with third-party applications, which can help streamline the import of payroll data. This is a valuable pathway for enhancing your software's compatibility with QuickBooks. You can share this step-by-step guide with your users:
For QuickBooks Desktop, users can explore options by visiting the QuickBooks App Store. By navigating to the CATEGORIES section, they can select an app that provides flexibility in importing payroll data via CSV. This approach allows users to find tailored solutions that meet their specific needs for payroll integration.
Additionally, you could consider developing a third-party application that can facilitate this process. By creating an app, you could enable your users to import payroll data seamlessly into QuickBooks.
Allow me to share additional resources related to managing third-party app integrations within the program:
We’re here to support you as you explore these options. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please reach out through this channel. Thank you for considering this collaboration, and we look forward to helping you enhance your users' experience with QuickBooks.
Hey,
Thank you for the detailed answer.
I'm currently developing third party application to support this.
This isn't for this section but I'm going to have to contact support / dev support because the sandbox accounts don't come with QuickBooks payroll enabled so I can't test them endpoints or request them scopes on oAuth
