If an employee takes sick leave in the first 2 years of employment they only get SSP. One employee had 0.5 days off this month - how would I record it in Advanced payroll

I need to deduct half a day's pay but I am not sure how to record it so that the payroll function makes the correct deduction.

Hello, Hayley. Let me help you record your employee's deduction in QuickBooks Online Advanced (QBOA).

In QuickBooks Advanced Payroll, you have the ability to establish deductions from an employee's wages. To begin with, let's head to the payroll section to add a deduction category.

  1. Navigate to Payroll section and select Deduction Categories under Payroll Settings.
  2. Choose Add to make a new deduction category. (you can select the name of the deduction category)
  3. Input the name of your new deduction category.
  4. Indicate whether the deduction is pre-tax or post-tax.
  5. Add an external ID. (you can turn on or off the Unique External ID from your Payroll Settings.
  6. Specify the impact on National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage.
  7. Click Save.

If you wish to establish a recurring deduction, refer to this guide: Set up a recurring deduction category.

Additionally, check out this article for further information on handling payroll reports within QuickBooks: Run payroll reports.
