Use standard payroll. Employee reached state pension age. Have to change NI table to C. Support tell me you can't do this mid year. QBO non-compliant? Must be wrong?

When I change the table, and try to run payroll, I get a message that this employee needs setup completed - but there is nothing to change.

Support say that I have to change the table at start of tax year. But that would not be compliant with HMRC as I would have run payroll with wrong table for March. It also seems odd that if someone reaches retirement age in May, you can't change their table until the following tax year in April.

Support also say that as a workaround I have to delete the payrolls for the employee, change the letter and then re-run - but that would mean I have, say, 11 payrolls being run for them with the wrong NI table. Who knows what RTI will make of that!

Can anyone advise/help?

Hello izzysteve, what you have been told is correct im afraid, that is just how standard payroll works you can't change it until the beginning of the tax year. You can leave this as feedback within the main cogwheel in your account it gets sent straight to the developers.

I’m not sure how your payroll can be deemed compliant if it dos not allow you to follow HMRC rules. Had to have an online chat with one of your payroll experts who eventually, after an hour of checking, confirmed this as a limitation.

your developers need to address this asap.
