Hello and welcome to the QB's Community!
If you’re new to the QuickBooks Community and wondering what’s happening here, you’ve come to the right place. Here you’ll find information about our community and guidance on how to find your way around and get the most out of your experience.
Why we built the QB Community
There are tonnes of people out there trying to offer you “help”. From sketchy pyramid schemes to unknown “experts” stating little more than the obvious, there’s plenty of noise to distract you from the real business of starting and growing your business.
We know the noise can be deafening. Frustrating. Exhausting. And downright confusing.
We wanted to escape the din. We knew we needed a place for real conversation. We wanted to be able to share real stories about our adventures—and misadventures—in entrepreneurship. We want to enable millions of people who work for themselves to grow and keep moving forward. We wanted a community that values listening, learning, supporting and exchanging ideas. So, we built it.
We’re a supportive place
Have you ever wanted to post a question or comment online but have been too intimidated to hit the button? Maybe you were afraid no one else could relate to your question or concern. Maybe you thought you were the only one who hadn’t figured out the answer. Maybe you felt like your question was downright dumb. We can relate. You know what else? Just about everyone else can, too.
We encourage complaining, commiserating and-of course-encouraging. We want you to feel comfortable and supported as you openly and honestly share the ups and downs of life as a small business owner.
Of course, your QuickBooks Community hosts are also here to make sure things are going swimmingly. If you have any questions or concerns, just let one of us know. We’ll do our best to solve any problem and keep our platform a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, appreciated and heard.

Hi, @julest! :)
I see that you're new to QB Online, that's really exciting.
Welcome to the QB Community! I’m Jess, your Business Host at QB Community U.K. QB Community was designed as a platform for ideas & inspiration, to support (QuickBooks Online and otherwise!) and for sharing experiences with other small business owners/self-employed.
I would love to know more about you! Are you self-employed, do you own a business or are you an accountant?
Hey, Karsty,
After chatting, I definitely think your business story would be of interest to others! Being a gardener must have its ups and downs, however, in the summer, I bet it is glorious!
How long have you had your gardening business and what made you choose to become a business owner?
Hi, Jaynemartin!
Welcome to the QB Community! :)
I have seen from your previous comment that you would like to become accountant-free, that's amazing and a great step forward. I would love to know more about your business, how do you find the experience of being a sole trader? :)
Hi, @simonsaidi,
welcome to the U.K QB Community! It's great to have you here.
This post will be a handy one to read! Remember, working for yourself doesn’t have to mean working by yourself. At QB Community, we’ve got your back.
Hi, lynda!
Welcome to the business side of the UK QB Community!
It's amazing to have you here. I see from your profile you are a bookkeeper/Pro Advisor and in your spare time you practice and teach yoga (that's so wonderful! & that is also a hobby of mine too). I find that yoga helps me disconnect from the craziness of life sometimes!
I would love to know more about your business journey. Please feel free to share more in the comments below! And in this post, you'll see a full run-down of the Community - build connections, share stories, learn something new and feel inspired.
Hi, Yummypuddingco !
Welcome to the U.K QB Community!
I would love to know more about what you do... Is it related to your username?
Hi, @Vickysbookkeepi
Hope you're having a great day!
This post might be useful - the U.K QB Community is much more than product help.
It’s a safe, supportive, online channel where entrepreneurs like you share stories, build relationships and find information and resources to make smart business decisions.
Hi, @wigglewaggle
Welcome to the U.K QB Community!
I do freelance work too and I absolutely love it. How do you find the freelancing world?
I was the same when it came to invoicing, using GoogleDocs to manually do everything. It was an exhausting process and not always 100% professional either. Having my invoices all in one place now... Is a huge breath of fresh air!
Hi, @kiddandbear
Here is one article where you can learn more about the QB Community! :)

Hi, @phils673
I hope you're having an awesome week so far!
Welcome to the U.K QB Community. I have seen that you're wanting to transition your paper-based clients to QuickBooks and get them prepared for MTD - sounds great & on that note, check out our MTD Hub for lots of resources!
Are you a bookkeeper or an accountant?
I struggle with bookkeeping and software. For years I have tried various brands, failed miserably and given up. After 20 years in business, I have decided that I should face up to my fears and have chosen QuickBooks to help me overcome them.
My biggest problem is when I make a mistake, I have no idea how to correct it and often make the whole thing worse. I guess, I need to find a mentor or an accountant to look over my work.
I am thrilled with the bank feed for bank accounts and credit card accounts and I am amazed by your Bank Reconciliation facility.
I do not use QB for generating invoices for customers and I do not enter suppliers invoices either. I just use the bank feed! My business is dependent on a very complicated invoice generation process carried out by a specialist developer in my business field (child care) Once I get used to using the software to produce accurate Reports, I might consider importing customer / supplier invoices, it will give me a better audit trail.
Thank you

Hi Jess
I recently started using Quickbooks and have joined the Community pages today. I'm self employed and will soon start operating as a minicab driver. I like the general feel and operation of Quickbooks.
One thing I've not found as yet is the VAT section - is it something that will pop up automatically?
Best wishes
James
Hey Jabo1967,
You won't see a VAT Section in the Self Employed version of our account. The QBSE doesn't track VAT like our business package. You will have a taxes section, where it records information for your Self Assessment Tax Return, but not for a VAT Return.
Are you required to do VAT returns, or just Self Assessment Tax Returns?
Thanks,
I know this is probably the wrong place to post, but having been incredibly pleased with QB when i first became a member a few months back, I have now become incredibly frustrated. I would like help and cannot seem to get any. I have tried via the app, to which i have had 3 messages saying a human will email me, and they never have. I have also tried looking at other peoples posts, but I would like an answer to avoid having to do load more work please. I was getting error 163 when trying to connect my Tescos Bank Credit Card and now it's gone to code 101. I have done as much as i know what to do, as I think Tescos wanted me to confirm my telephone number even though it hasn't changed, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Plus i read on a post that perhaps changing passwords would work... nope, still getting same error. It's been going on for months and I am now worried I won't be able to import my transactions. Could you please help me. Many thanks Eliza.
I am new to QB too, I recall seeing that some banks were bringing up errors whilst trying to connect, for a while this happened with Paypal and I had to upload a file manually. I think if you can get through to a QB human to report it, they will eventually sort out the issue. You could try removing the original connection and starting a new one. Sorry, I cannot be of any more help. I am sure there will be someone on here that is more knowledgeable than me, who will respond to you
