If you've submitted a payroll payment to HMRC and then realize you've made an error, HMRC prefers that you correct the error on the next payroll run. If you need to correct the error immediately, you can make amendments to an employee’s most recent payroll payment that has been submitted to HMRC.
You can roll back a payroll when the original error was made. Please take note of these reminders before doing the rollback.
- You can't edit just one employee payment. You have to roll back the entire payroll and recreate the payments.
- Rolling back a payroll rolls back any changes you made to auto-enrollment. If you recreate the payroll, you have to make those changes again.
- If you notified HRMC of a leaver in a payroll you rollback, the leaver date will remain the same.
