I have a client who is having problems filing their VAT return through QuickBooks online.
They are on the MTD pilot scheme and have been filing returns through QBO for months. They then did all the correct steps to move over to MTD fully. Should they have done this before 1 April 2019?
After filing the VAT return through QuickBooks, the VAT return has not been received by HMRC. The status on QBO states it has been received. They have phoned both HMRC who have told them to contact QBs. QBs have told them to contact HMRC.
Another point to this issue is they now have two separate accounts under 'Taxes'. One is for HMRC, the other is called 'Laerdal'. Does anyone has any ideas why this has appeared?
Hello
Thanks for contacting QuickBooks
It is fine to authorise MTD before April 2019 with HMRC. What date did you client authorise this with HMRC, do they have email confirmation from them for this showing the correct information?
The only reason we can think why they would not receive the file is if the MTD connection has not authorised correctly and then it would mean the upload would be going via the gateway put not to the correct place. This is why we are asking for the above information
The Pilot scheme and MTD itself should not set up any other tax agencies they would only appear if you set up a custom tax n the settings and add that name into the rate as the tax agency. You will be able to see this in the audit log under added tax agency if you want to see when this was done
Kind regards
Emma
Hi Emma
Thankyou for your reply. My client has sent me the email she received from HMRC. I think the return has been filed through the old pilot scheme channel. She had ticked the box on the HMRC website to switch over to MTD. I am not sure if she has followed the correct procedure on QBO. Has the return been rejected because it should go through a new channel to HMRC?
On QuickBooks the return is showing as filed with HMRC so she cannot re-file the return. She can no longer file VAT returns on the HMRC gateway because she has already ticked the box to switch to MTD.
Is there anyway we can reverse the submission of a VAT return so she can re-file it?
Kind Regards
Joe
