Hi I have two questions - the service I provide is VAT exempt so how do I enter this into qb online? Also, is there a way of calculating corporation tax? I want to be able to enter this info so I can get a tax estimate that reflects my circumstances. Thanks Denise
Hello, Denise.
I'll ensure you'll be able to record your VAT exempt services. I'll also give some information about calculating corporation tax in QuickBooks.
For VAT exempt services, you'll want to set up a service and tag it as Exempt. Then, you would enter the service using the transaction forms (invoices, estimates, bills, etc.) to record it. Simply click on the + New button, then select a transaction you want to create.
With that said, here's how to tag a service as Exempt:
If your service can either be VAT exempt or with VAT (depending on the circumstances), simply leave the VAT box as blank.
On any transaction form, you are given an option to tag a certain line item with the corresponding VAT options.
Simply select Exempt under VAT for the line item if one particular service is exempted. Or, select No VAT under Amounts are if all line items are exempted.
All entries will flow towards your VAT reports. If you need to see the affected transactions (whether they are exempt or not), we can pull them up within QuickBooks.
Go to the Taxes menu. On the VAT page, click the View reports drop-down button. Then, select the report you want to see.
Regarding the corporate tax, QuickBooks Online doesn't support the calculation for corporate tax. We only support VAT and PAYE taxes for payroll.
Though, you can record your corporate taxes inside QuickBooks using a bill, a cheque, or an expense entry. You would still want to manually calculate it however.
There might be a third-party app that would help you calculate corporation tax within QuickBooks. So, I'd recommend browsing for offers in the App Centre page (ensure the flag or region is set to UK): https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home.
I would, however, recommend consulting a tax adviser or an accountant in calculating your corporation tax. They'll ensure it is accurate and properly booked in QuickBooks.
Want to learn more about managing VAT in QuickBooks? I'll add these articles just in case:
If you need to submit and file your VAT to the HMRC in the future, I'll add a guide if you need help: Submit a MTD for VAT return to HMRC in QuickBooks Online.
You can always drop your questions here if you'd like to learn more about managing VAT entries in QuickBooks. Do you have any other concerns like running reports or managing your transactions? Let me know and I'll gladly help you out.
