Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

Hello Chris433, thank you for your reply. We can see this is a more complex situation. We've been in contact with the team who are dealing with the desktop discontinuation and had a look at the history of your account. We need to have a look into this more, so that we can advise you correctly, especially after all you have already been through with QuickBooks. To that end we have emailed you this afternoon for a little more detail.

Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

Hello, I cannot remember if I bought the version I run.  I have used QB for decades, so have certainly paid enough.  I was also a beta tester.  I use QB Premier 2020.  Will I be prevented from using it?  I can send customer number, product number, licence number etc.  I do not need any online services as I only use QB as my recording system, NOT for any interaction with authorities and I am NOT VAT registered.  Please advise. Thanks

I think it is totally unnecessary for Intuit to disable our desktop versions  which we have all paid for by the way . I started using online about 1 year ago when they started to notify that desktop would be discontinued but  because of all the online problems I use my desktop as a backup. I also have a requirement to keep customer info for 5 years so this latest selfish decision by the bunch who are running Intuit at the moment is very bad for me. Why can't they just leave our desktop versions alone ? until they just stop working.

Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

I've read the thread, and I can see how the QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation affects everybody, SimonP1.

After May 31, 2023, access to add-on services will be discontinued for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows 2020. This discontinuation applies to all versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Solutions v20.

However, it's important to note that your product will continue to function as usual if you do not use any add-on services in QuickBooks Desktop 2020. The core functionalities of QuickBooks Desktop will remain intact, allowing you to manage your finances and perform basic tasks.

You can refer to these articles for more information about the discontinuation of the QBDT UK version:

If you have any specific questions or concerns about this discontinuation or need assistance with any other QuickBooks-related matters, feel free to provide the details below, and I'll help you. You have a good one.

Hi Aileen

We are on QuickBooks Desktop Premier Accountant, purchased outright.  No subscriptions or account with QB.  We also do not make use of any internet-based services such as QuickBooks Payroll or QuickBooks Backup online.

We have noted your confirmation that we will be able to continue operating come 1 June 2024, however our IT has follow-up questions regarding OS updates etc.  Is there a QB data engineer that they can reach out to?

We have also been investigating migrating to QuickBooks online but, again we have questions regarding suitability, compatibility etc.  Is there a specialist consultant that we can deal with, live?

We are in South Africa and unable to reach advisors in the country.

I value how you wanted to stay with your current version, @JKZA.

The information provided by my colleague above is correct. You can continue using your QuickBooks Desktop 2019 as long as your computer meets the system requirement for the said version. Here are the OS requirements for your edition (Windows 7 SP1.8.1 Update 1 or Windows 10 version supported by Microsoft and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or SP2, 2012 R2, and 2016). Also, you won't be able to utilize the add-ons and online banking service for discontinued versions.

Additionally, you've mentioned that your IT has questions regarding the OS (Operating System) updates. I encourage you to share it on this thread since there isn't any option to connect you to our QuickBooks Desktop Data engineers. We might be able to answer your inquiry without the need to reach them.

If you'd like to know more about QuickBooks Online's suitability and compatibility usage, contact our Sales support to address these questions appropriately.

@JKZA

If you are using QB Desktop 2019 with a non subscription license, you should keep it to access your historical data for good. Then you may start from scratch in QBO South Africa. If you still prefer to convert your data, you can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance.

Dear @MichaelaS  / @AileneA  / QB Team

I am in a similar position to many of the other users who have posted on this thread, in that:
- I am using a licensed version of for QB Desktop (an outright, once-off purchase, not a subscription license)

- I don't need access to any online services or online VAT submissions (I am based in South Africa, not the UK)

- I am not wishing to migrate to QB Online just yet as there are still a number of features that we use in the Desktop edition that are not yet available in the online version. We also have a custom developed app that integrates with our desktop edition, which I do not think will work if we migrate to the online version.

When I heard a few years back that QBDT was going to be discontinued I upgraded to the latest desktop version that was available to us in South Africa at the time (Accountant Premier Edition 2020) including licenses for 7 users. I am aware that technical support and updates are not longer available for the desktop versions, but the problem I have is with the discontinuation of the activation services (both the online and telephonic).

The situation I have currently is that in the last week we have had a hard drive fail on one of our accounts PC's and another user's laptop was stolen. I have replaced both machines, installed Quickbooks on them, entered my license keys but then I get stuck at the activation step.

Is there anyway that someone from you team could assist me with the manual validation codes if I supply the License numbers and Source Codes?

I'm here to ensure you can get the validation code you need for activating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), KevinL79. Allow me to route you to the appropriate support for assistance.

If you have acquired QBDT outside of Intuit, you can contact or ask for a validation code from the merchant website where you purchased the product.

However, if you have purchased QBDT US from Intuit, you can proceed to these steps to connect with an expert:

  1. Visit this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/contact.
  2. Ensure to select the appropriate product you have.
  3. Key in a brief description of your concern.
  4. Determine how you would like to reach our support: Chat with us or Have us call you.

Moreover, you can scan this material for guidance whenever you encounter issues accessing your company file: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

We're just around if you have queries about activating QuickBooks Desktop or any concerns when performing different business tasks. You can click the reply button and tag us here in the forum.

Hi @KimberlyS

Thank you for the prompt reply. Unfortunately neither of the support agents that I have just chatted to online were able to assist me. I suspect that the activation code for my South African QBDT edition will need to come from Intuit UK, not Intuit USA. Do you perhaps a link for me to chat online with someone from the UK team?

Thanks for getting back to the thread, @KevinL79.

I'd be glad to share the link on how to connect with our QuickBooks Team. This way, you can get manual validation codes to activate your QBDT product.

Since customer support for QuickBooks Desktop UK products is already unavailable, I suggest connecting with our other QuickBooks Support Group. They can check in the system if they can still provide the activation code to help activate the product.

Simply click this link here to reach out to them: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-uk/contact.

In addition, you can check the following resources to know what to do next after the product discontinuation:

Please let me know if you need further help activating your setup. I'll be here to help. Have a good one.
