Categorising transactions

Let me go over and discuss further details about on how you categorise your transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE),Bumblebee2.

The QuickBooks Self Employed platform is designed specifically for independent contractors and freelancers. With this, you're unable to find a category like Cost of Good Sold (COGS).

Also, the SA103F categories that were tagged as allowable are expenses that can be deducted from your taxable profit. However, disallowable expenses are transactions that can't be deducted from your business income. For more details, you can check out this helpful article: About SA103F Categories.

I also recommend consulting with an accountant to help you in using the correct categories.

If you want to know which certain category your transactions is for you can review your transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Find a transaction on the list.
  3. Select Business if the transaction was for business, or select Personal for personal. If the transaction was both, select Split.
  4. Review the category in the Category column.
  5. If you need to change the category, select the category link. Select a general type, and choose a more detailed category.
