Hi, Can not connect to HMRC error has been showing for nearly a week. Can anyone help?

I know how important to keep your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account connected to HMRC, comicbiz1. That's why I'm here to share details about fixing the error you've encountered. This way, you can file and pay your taxes on time.

Let's go check your MTD connection from QBO to HMRC. To do this, you can check the VAT Settings page and make sure the Digital VAT submission is turned on.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select Edit VAT.
  3. Choose Edit Settings.
  4. Go to the Digital VAT submission section.
  5. If the toggle is green, then it's still connected.
  6. If the toggle is gray, then it's turned off. You'll have to turn it on to stay connected to MTD.
  7. Select Save.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference.

Once the toggle is still green, then you're still getting the error, you can disconnect and re-connect the MTD connection to refresh it. You can go to the Gear icon, then select the Advanced menu. From there, disconnect it by just following the on-screen prompts. After that, sign out to your QBO account, then log back in to reconnect the it.

Additionally, HMRC changed the way VAT registered businesses create and submit VAT returns through MTD. You can check out these two articles which provides the answers to the most frequently asked questions about it:

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
