Import from Desktop 2016 Pro to online

I'm trying to convert 4 years of QB Desktop Pro 2016 to online.

QB Support sends me to use Movemybooks, who will convert 2 years for free but are charging £75 + VAT for each extra year.

Edit - I've just tried Movemybooks but it doesn't work because I'm using QBO Simple Start

As I know, if you don't need to meet the MTD requirements, you can stick with QB Desktop to save costs. Otherwise, converting data to QBO UK version or other accounting application is unavoidable.

You can use MMB services to convert your data, but you should know the limitations. If you need to convert data with additional requirements (eg multicurrency, attachments), you should consider purchasing another conversion service.

Thanks for your reply.

I want to move because I want an option that I can use on the go.

MMB didn't work because I'm using Simple Start so that's now not an option.

I now don't know how I'm going to convert it across....if anyone has any ideas that would be a huge help

Thank you for reaching out, @Tracey. I understand the importance of moving your data to QuickBooks Online. However, there will be a temporary pause on all QuickBooks Desktop to Online migrations.

This means that we won't be able to assist customers in migrating using Beanstalk (now discontinued). On the other hand, customers can still manually move their data across using the open balance method.

For detailed information, refer to this article: Why can’t I move my data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?

You can visit this article to find answers to frequently asked questions about moving your data to QBO: Move your data to QuickBooks Online

If you have any further concerns about QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here. Stay safe!

Hello there, @knoxtracey29. Thanks for getting back to the thread.

Customers can use the open balance method to manually transfer data. I'll gladly assist you with entering customer opening balances in a new QuickBooks Online. Please comply with the following steps:

  1. Preparing for conversion. It's suggested that you transfer data towards the end of the period, when your books or those of your clients are orderly and reconciled.
  2. Importing from excel or CSV data lists.
  3. Order of Import.
  4. Entering opening balances for accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Please read this article for a more detailed explanation of the open balance method: Enter customer opening balances in QuickBooks Online.

Check out this article to match your bank and credit card statements in QuickBooks Online: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to comment down below if you need further assistance migrating your data in QuickBooks Online. We're available 24/7. Keep safe,  knoxtracey29.

You may consider to purchase another 3rd party conversion service.

Is there a way importing the individual transactions?

This isn't for a business so I don't need customer and supplier balances, ideally I'd have the individual transactions

You can utilize a 3rd party migration tool. i.e TP Exporter for Desktop and TP Importer for Online.

Thanks for joining the thread, @knoxtracey29. I'll walk you through how to import transactions to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company.

Yes. To keep track of those transactions that you've made outside QuickBooks, you can import them into your QBO company. Also, I believe you can easily accomplish this since the process is quite simple. I'll input the steps below so you can proceed. To begin, here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top-right corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Under the Tools column, select Import Data.
  4. Choose the type of transaction that you'd like to import.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Also, if you want to manually import bank transactions, you can visit this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

In addition, I've got you this article to learn more about what data can be imported in QBO: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

You can also check this page in case you'd like to modify your reports and add more details to it: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.

@knoxtracey29, I'm rooting for your success in importing your transactions in QuickBooks. Feel free to get back to me if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be here, ready to help you out again. Take care, and have a nice day!
