Hello - I have successfully created General Journal iif imports with classes for several years. I now have the need to add subclasses in my iif file. The only different in my file is the subclass (Texas:407) - which is how I have handing subclasses in accounts.
Is anyone having success with importing subclasses in an IIF file?
Here is an example of my file:
"!TRNS","TRNSTYPE","DATE","ACCNT","NAME","CLASS","AMOUNT","DOCNUM"
"!SPL","TRNSTYPE","DATE","ACCNT","NAME","CLASS","AMOUNT","DOCNUM"
"!ENDTRNS"
"TRNS","GENJRNL","12/23/22","24000","","",-784.50,""
"SPL","GENJRNL","12/23/22","0167","","Texas:407",-1855.32,""
"SPL","GENJRNL","12/23/22","0345","","Texas:407",-2.78,""
"SPL","GENJRNL","12/23/22","6120","","Texas:407",2241.79,""
"SPL","GENJRNL","12/23/22","6125","","Texas:407",154.29,""
"SPL","GENJRNL","12/23/22","6150","","Texas:407",246.52,""
"ENDTRNS"
Thank you!
I appreciate you reaching out to us regarding importing journal entry data, Jonyce.
You'll want to convert it to a CSV file since you can import the IIF file only in QuickBooks Desktop. To do this, either open the file in Excel and save it as a *.CSV file or import the data using a third-party application. Go to the Apps menu and search for any IIF importer.
For information on what can be uploaded and in what format, kindly check this link: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.
If you have additional questions about importing data in QuickBooks, don't hesitate to reply. I'm always glad to answer them.
You need a 3rd party app to do so.
I am importing it into Desktop - I need to know if the iif will import the class subclasses in the iif for Desktop.
I am not importing into Online - into Desktop.
Prepare your JE data with the following template
| RefNumber | Transaction Date | Account | Debit | Credit | Memo | Name | Class | Billable | Is Adjustment | Currency | Exchange Rate | Home Currency Adjustment | Amounts in Home Currency |
| 1 | 27/09/2020 | Checking | 130 | PR 092518 | John Smith | N | N | ||||||
| 1 | 27/09/2020 | Wages | 200 | PR 092518 | John Smith | N | N | ||||||
| 1 | 27/09/2020 | Payroll Taxes Payable | 50 | PR 092518 | John Smith | N | N | ||||||
| 1 | 27/09/2020 | Health Insurance Payable | 20 | PR 092518 | John Smith | N | N |
then use one of these importer tools to proceed
