Hi Guys,
Just started using Quickbooks. I need to import my mileage. I drive to customers everyday for work and I have logged them all in excel. What is the format for the CSV files ? As I can manipulate my xsl files to suit them. Doing this manually will take too long
I am still receiving import faults when I try and import csv files that have been downloaded directly off QBO.

Good day, @JohnNinjo.
Yes, you're right. One of the requested features in QuickBooks Online is to import trips using the CSV file into the program.
For now, there is no specific timeline on when will it be available in QuickBooks.
In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Firm of the Future site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features.

Hi dillonNeuMatter,
Currently, you can only import trips from Mile IQ to QBO, if you are moving to QB from a different software and have not been using this app then we'd recommend entering the trips as a bulk entry (e.g. per week or as a total of the year to date) and then enter these manually into QuickBooks going forward.
The mileage is a recent feature in QBO and we're looking to develop this further, I'd be grateful if you could submit any feedback you have for this by going to the Cogwheel > Feedback within your account.
Thanks!
Hi,
I appreciate the response.
Importing from MileIQ to QBO does not work. I have tried multiple times. Importing from a CSV file that has been exported from QBO does not work either.
What is the format for the CSV ? if I know this I can edit my own CSV files.
This is a small fix that could make this whole process a lot quicker.
If QBO could release a format for CSV files, that would work.
Reason for not working, MileIQ doesnt seem to allow to export to CSV anymore. Only XLS and pdf, and QBO does not accept the conversion of XLS to CSV.
I see CSV import is an upcoming feature. Any news on when this will be implemented please?

Yes you can - sort of.
If you want to import historical mileage from QB desktop to QB online (as I did), try this:
(1) In QBD, run up the Mileage by Vehicle Detail Report (Mileage, Mileage Reports, Mileage by Vehicle Detail)
(2) Choose the time frame for the report (I chose All)
(3) Under the Excel menu, choose Create New Worksheet
(4) Give it a name and IMPORTANT - choose "Create a comma separate values file"
(5) Now open the file and massage it so that you have the following column headers:
Date, Type, Trip Purpose, Vehicle, Start Address, End Address, Distance, Deduction, Logging Method
(6) I used the following example info in mine:
01/04/2021, Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 175, 0, Manual
(All rows in my file had Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 0, Manual column entries, only things changed were Distance and Date)
(7) In QBO, go to Mileage, click on arrow next to Add Trip, then Import Trips
(8) Select and Import the CSV file, and you should be good !
Why on earth Intuit couldn't add an import of mileage from QBD is beyond me. But then I've just moved to QBO and I'm starting to find it's limitations. Already looking for an alternative....
It's two years after the initial request was made and there's no easier way to accomplish something as simple as importing a CSV file. The software incorporates complexity of using 3rd party or proprietary tracking apps, and the ability to import those app's CSV, but conveniently, there's no way to import a manual log that can easily be converted to CSV. It becomes obvious where interests lie.
