Product code on purchase order

Why don't product codes appear on a purchase order?

Are suppliers meant to guess from the description what we need to order?

I have read a few threads on this, none work.

Product code on purchase order

Hello RAY15, thanks for posting on the Community page, so you will have to put the product code on the purchase order in the description section of the invoice. However, if you put the item in the description section on the product and service setup it should then show up on the invoice for you.

And then the product code will show up twice on an invoice?

Very amateur.

Why cant this be fixed, other people clearly have this issue?

Let me chime into this thread to address your concern about showing the product codes in your purchase orders, @RAY15.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can enable the product code column in your purchase orders by navigating to the Accounts and Settings of your account. Let me walk you through the process:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Accounts and settings.
  2. Click the Sales tab, then tap the pencil icon from the Products and services section.
  3. Enable the Show Item/Service Code column. (If this is enabled already, turn it off and turn it on again to trigger the system.)
  4. Hit Save, then Done to finish.

See this screenshot on how it appears in your purchase orders:

In case you want to include an additional field to your sales forms or purchase orders, you can simply check out this article for the detailed process: Add custom fields to sales forms and purchase orders in QuickBooks Online.

You'll also want to run and save monthly expense reports by a supplier to see how much you pay each of them monthly.

We are always available at any time if you need further help with managing your purchase orders and vendor transactions in QBO. Take care and have a good day ahead, RAY15!

That's great and the item codes appear on my purchase orders. However when I go to print, they are not there on the PDF version.

Hi there, @RAY15.

It's nice to hear that the item codes are now showing in your purchase order form.

At the moment, the ability to include the ITEM/SERVICE CODE in printing the purchase order form is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I encourage you to send this as a suggestion to our Product Development Team through your feedback feature. They might add this to our future product updates. Here's how:

  1. Select Settings ⚙, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

In the meantime, we can add the ITEM/SERVICE CODE in the Description column manually so it will be included when you print it out, Another way around this is to add a custom field to your purchase order form and manually enter the code there. You can follow the steps below:

  1. From the Gear icon, select Custom fields in the LISTS column.
  2. Click the Add field.
  3. Enter ITEM/SERVICE CODE in the Name field.
  4. Tick the Purchase Order box. You can also include the All Sales form.
  5. To show it when you print it, click the Print on form tab.
  6. Tap Save.

You might want to see how much you're paying each supplier every month, check out this article: How to run and save a monthly expense report by supplier.

For additional purchase order-related questions, never hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be willing to lend a hand. Take care and have a good day.

This is basic common sense how can the supplier know which parts we need if the part number isn't on the purchase order? Our software is a joke.

honestly disappear with these type of replies, typically bots, and Intuit's refusal to fix issues which constantly are being requested. Why have the ability to have a suppliers specific product code, which typically is different to your own one. Then not to have it appear on the pdf version of the PO. It's the same with the invoice by not having a custom column which would help with multiple customer purchase orders per line on a single invoice, also requested over and over for years.

Intuit have recently set up a feature request section of the forum. It's been a bit of a damp squib though with very little activity. I think mainly down to us customers just sick of complaining and just dealing with the issues, or the fact Intuit haven't really told everyone avout the new section. I still think there's a lot of users don't even know these forums exsist.

But, if you have time you should put your complaint on the forum https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/quickbooks-idea-exchange/idb-p/uk-idea-exchange

But how many times has this been feed back to them after years of users asking for this Ashleigh? Do you actuaslly get sick of replying with the same answer to the same problems?

WHY IS THIS STILL UNRESOLVED?

WHY DO "THE DEVELOPERS" NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THIS?
