Recurring Transaction - Change the Invoice Template

Hi

I have set up 1,000 invoicing recurring transactions for members of an organisation.  I now wish to change the invoice template used.  I would prefer to use a new invoice template; changing the existing one fails to give the invoice format I would like

It appears that I have two options

1) Edit all 1,000 recurring transactions individually to select the invoice template

2) Fiddle around with the existing invoice template and put up with a less than satisfactory result

Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Recurring Transaction - Change the Invoice Template

Hi @Peter3605

Is the existing template a QB template or one you imported?

If it's an imported template, you should be able to delete it from the drop down in Custom Form Styles.

It's a bit of a gamble but I think that the templates would then revert to the new Default template.

Alternatively, it's possible there's an App (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home) that can connect the background data API in QBO & modify for you but I think most of them are designed to import/export data rather than edit the data itself.  Beside, the chances are that Recurring Templates don't form part of the Company Data File in the same way that an Invoice or Bill do.

It might be worth spending an hour or two checking in with a few of the companies to see if their apps will do what you want.

Hope this helps.

Recurring Transaction - Change the Invoice Template

Thank you!  Hadn't thought about deleting the invoice template.  As you say, perhaps a bit of a risk given we have 1,000 recurring templates tied to it.  I may try this with a new recurring transaction tied to a different invoice template and see what happens when I delete the template.

For the moment, I have managed to edit the existing template in a way that seems to work but will know more once some invoices have gone out.

I do find the template editing in QuickBooks Online far less flexible than Desktop and a bit random about where it places things depending on the order of changes.
