Transactions still showing after closing books for the year

I closed my books for the last financial year last week. Our closing date was set at 5th April 2022. Everything is as should be now except that on my business overview the transactions between the 1st and 5th April are still showing. Therefore my business overview for April 2022 is wildly inaccurate. Can this issue be resolved and if so how ?

Transactions still showing after closing books for the year

Thanks for getting back to us DaveDos, there's currently no option to set the specific date for the first day of your financial year; instead, reports including the dashboard widgets and business overview will run by default from the first day of the first month of the FY selected in the advanced settings. We do appreciate many businesses' start this in line with the tax year and so for accuracy customisation would be preferable - we'll be sure to share feedback on this with our team :woman_technologist:

Transactions still showing after closing books for the year

Welcome to the Community family, @DaveDos.

I'll share some insights about closing your books in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Closing your books helps prevent unwanted changes to your account and transactions. This locks your transactions so no one can modify them before the closing date.

Thus, all transactions that fall before the closing date are still visible in your account. It's just that editing them will be impossible since your book is closed after the transaction date.

Furthermore, you can also work with your accountant to assist you in ensuring your book is accurate. This way, you'll be guided accordingly if there are changes to be made.

In case you want to modify your closed books, please see this article for guidance: Edit your closed books.

Please keep me in the loop if you have any other questions about your books or with QBO. I'll be more than happy to help you anytime. Have a great week!

Transactions still showing after closing books for the year

Thanks for your reply. My question still remains however because my business overview for April 22 is not  showing an accurate figure for the current tax year. My current years books start on 6th April 2022 yet in my business overview are included transactions that apply to the previous tax year ie those transactions that occurred on dates 1st-5th April.

I totally get that i can produce a profit and loss report for any given dates I choose but my business overview 'start date' ie the first day of my current trading year seems to be stuck at 1st April. Can I change this or not ?

I have looked in 'account settings' and I can see that I can change the start month of my trading year but not the date. Is this the reason for this limitation ?

Hi DaveDos What type of transactions are showing on the P&L that relate to last financial year, what is the first month of the financial year in your advanced settings and what method of accounting are you using, cash or accrual?

Transactions still showing after closing books for the year

Thanks for your reply. My first financial month in my settings is set at April. We use cash basis accounting.

As I stated previously I have closed my books correctly up to the 5th April 2022 and have created a P&L report for my previous trading year without issue

It's my 'business overview' on my dashboard that is including transactions from the past year, both income and expenses. I've attached screen shot of the boxes in question. The top right selection box says 'this financial year' but the figures are incorrect. They include transactions from the 1st to the 5th April inclusive. These belong to the previous financial year. As a result my business overview will always be inaccurate.

We would like to be able to set the day of the month for the start of our financial year but that option doesn't seem to exist. This seems to be the reason for my issue.
