transferring bank acct

I've got your back on transferring funds from your checking account to your savings account, @Reelumn.

Is your savings account already added to your chart of accounts? If it's not, you can write a cheque and associate it to an equity account, then make a deposit to the same account. This way, you'll be able to record the funds transferred from your checking account. Here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks Desktop, go to the Banking menu and select Write Cheques.
  2. Select the checking account from the Bank Account drop-down.
  3. Go to the Expenses section, then select an equity account under the Account column.
  4. Enter the amount and necessary information.
  5. Click Save & Close.
  6. Go back to the Banking menu and select Make Deposits.
  7. Select the equity account in the From Account drop-down, then enter the amount.
  8. Hit Save & Close.

However, if your savings account is listed in your chart of accounts, you can simply record a bank transfer. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to the Banking menu, then select Transfer Funds.
  2. Select the checking account in the From Account drop-down.
  3. Then, choose the savings account from the To account drop-down.
  4. Enter the amount and the necessary details.
  5. Click Save & Close.
